Yawning and clumsily rubbing his bleary eyes, Ray rolled onto his side and awakened from his nap. Luckily, he'd become familiar enough with Tails' hut to keep from panicking upon finding himself there. The tiny squirrel stretched and kicked away his blanket.
The sunlight poured in the uncovered window and landed squarely on his face, but he actually didn't mind; it felt comfortably warm. Ray quickly adjusted himself such that the square of light instead rested on his belly. That proved to feel even better. But then, he felt really, really good in general -- better than he could remember feeling in quite a while. Though he was personally unaware, the rest he'd gotten since being brought within Knothole's borders had been substantially better than any other he'd known out in the wide world. With his body more able to recuperate in its downtime, his stress levels decreased -- for the most part.
Ray started to stand up, then grimaced and held his crotch. A bathroom was in great desire, but as he still didn't know this strange place, and furthermore had already gotten lost once, he was not about to go wandering off by himself.
...But that didn't change the fact that he needed to pee.
Folding his ears back against his blonde head, Ray hopped onto the floor and carefully (read: awkwardly) edged his way to the hut's door. With his legs pressed together, the squirrel cracked open just enough space to peer out into the village.
A frown overtook his face. He didn't see that nice lady that'd been taking care of him anywhere. In fact, he didn't really see anyone at all -- which was just as well, since he wasn't all that interested in seeing anyone BUT that nice rabbit lady. Ray sighed and silently considered his options. He'd used a toilet many times before, yet on the other hand he was sufficiently experienced with simply digging a hole and burying his deposit. This place definitely looked like one that used toilets... Closing the door, the child decided to wait as long as he could stand for his caretaker to come get him, and in lieu of that, resort to digging a hole outside.
Ray turned to climb back into his assigned bed, but paused, instead eyeing a chest at the foot of it. The squirrel canted his head aside; it wasn't completely closed. Momentarily forgetting his need of a latrine, the child quizzically lifted the box's hinged lid. It was a toybox, although he didn't immediately realize it as such. Ray inspected the many dolls, plastic vehicles, games, and sporting items with intrigue, until coming across a brightly coloured and elaborately decorated box.
For some reason, the box was especially puzzling. Ray lifted it from its resting place and turned the item around in his hands. To his even greater confusion, it also had a lid, but he could not for the life of him get it open. Stranger still, there was some sort of moving handle on one side. Ray initially found this inconsequential, and was just about to abandon the toy when he discovered that turning the crank in one specific direction rewarded the holder with music. A wide smile spread across the squirrel's face. How fascinating!
Plopping onto the floor with his prize, the child continued to spin the handle. What a gratifying discovery! It was so amazing!! And the music was so pleasant! He couldn't WAIT to show it to the nice rabbit lady when she came to get him!
All of a sudden, the stubborn lid erupted open, unleashing a small but unwaveringly menacing beast. Its long, pointed snout, beady eyes, and unnatural course hair gave the creature an unholy essence in and of itself, let alone when barreling straight for his face. Ray let out a piercing, ear drum-shattering scream, quickly followed by frantic scrambling to hide beneath the bed... leaving a yellow trail in his wake. Suddenly he didn't seem to need Bunnie's assistance quite so much anymore. But then, he no longer wanted to show her the toy, anyway.
