The dull clank of SWATbot footsteps filled the dark, grimy corridors as the robot soldiers neared their destination, prisoners in tow. Both the corgi and the workerbot had one ‘guard’, while the blue hedgehog they believed to be Sonic was assigned two. Another walked behind them, laser ready incase any of them where to attempt an escape. It was quickly apparent, to those not native of the region, that the insides of Robotropolis were, in many cases, no cleaner then the outsides. Even here sooty grime clung to the walls, and the air smelt only marginally cleaner then that of outside- some thanks to the air filtering and conditioning system, though not much. In whole, it was quite clear that the apocalyptic aura of Robotropolis permeated through it entirely, inside and out. Finally after a good deal of walking the group stopped in front of a cell. The last SWATbot put down its laser, and tapped a quick command into the panel beside the cell, the door sliding with a beep and a mechanical whoosh. At this point the other SWATbots unceremoniously dumped their cargo within, and the cell’s door was quickly shut behind them. The prisoners now contained, a few of the small group of SWATbots wandered off to take care of other matters, the remaining SWATbots standing beside the cell, taking guard. Dash scrambled quickly back to his feet, and began to make the motions to dust himself off, pausing when he realized there really was no point in it. Instead deciding to look around the cell, he gave an unhappy mummer as the predicament he was in sunk in further. " Great, just great..."

After awhile of fruitless struggling, Merce had finally resigned himself to being lead by the group of strange robots. His speed and strength just weren't up to being able to handle them in his current form, so instead, he turned his focus onto the escape plan. As soon as the android had hit the floor he'd sprung back up, grabbing at the barred doors and glaring at the guards that stayed behind. A low growl emanated from the back of his throat. Stepping back he quickly looked over the cell for something - anything - of potential use. Of course nothing obvious presented itself. Momentarily at a loss, he stalked the length of the cell angrily. How had they found them?! As far as he knew no one had seen them. Unless Dash had deceived him he couldn't possibly - oh. OH. Merce suddenly stopped dead in his tracks, a look of mortification. His signal. He hadn't masked his signal. They must have come looking for him when he failed to bring Rush in. He buried his face into his palm - How could he overlook something like that?! He may as well have had a neon sign welded to him! "What are they going to do with us?" he finally muttered to Dash.

Dash, on the other hand, had taken to simply taking a seat on one of the benches. It didn't matter if he managed to get away from here, they'd still be able to track him down now. "To you two? I don't know what's going to happen to you two. I'm probably going to end up reprogrammed though..." At this, the robot tenrec gave a sigh.

Reprogrammed. The artificial hedgehog stiffened when he heard that word. Any self-respecting sentient robot considered their programming sacred - after all, it was the very center of what gave a robot the capacity to even think at all. "Why would they touch your programming?" he asked with an air of dire importance.

"Why? Because I've got free will. I'm not supposed to have free will. I'm supposed to mindlessly do the same thing every day over and over and not be able to do anything about it." He shot a glance at Merce, "and I'm especially not supposed to be helping people who look like Freedom Fighters."

Merce pressed his lips together into a thin line, looking even more concerned by this new information. At least he had the ability to pass for an organic. A quick glance over at Rush's inactive form, however... Grunting, the android took to pacing about much like a caged animal. "Who are these Freedom Fighters? And besides that... if you have free will why did you bother to help me after I had reassembled you anyway? You have made it... very clear you do not like my--" he glanced at Rush's offline form. "--double."

"The Freedom Fighters?" Dash gave the 'hedgehog' a sidewards glance. He really wasn't from around here if he didn't know that. "The Freedom Fighters are a resistance group trying to overthrow Robotnik and return things to the way they used to and should be. As for helping you..." the robot tenrec leaned back on his seat on the bench, "... that's not really completely out of choice. I guess 'free will' is the wrong word for it. The 'Other' you was the one that reprogrammed my original programming in the first place..." He mulled over that for a moment, trying to figure the best way to explain. "Basically, the 'Other' you tweaked the programming so I'd have to take orders from him. The fact that it lets me actually move and talk on my own was just an accident. Apparently the programming doesn't know the difference between you two, because when you tell me to answer your questions or to follow you, my programming takes that as an order, even though you're not him." At this point the robot tenrec glanced toward the cell bars, wondering if the SWATbots were listening in to any of this... Luckily, listening to prisoner conversations wasn't part of the job description, and thus ignored.

Merce blinked in surprise at this revelation, glancing at the guards when Dash had. The information about the Freedom Fighters was interesting - potentially useful. However, it was the other part of the tenrec's explanation that struck him. "Oh," he stopped pacing and rubbed at the back of his neck sheepishly. "I... was not aware." He scrunched his mouth, taking a moment to consider what to do with this information. His expression went blank. "If you were not required to manually obey my orders you would not pose a threat to me, would you?"

The tenrec-bot gave the false-hedgehog an equally blank (though dim eyed) look, before finally replying. "Why would I? I have nothing against you. You obviously aren't the kind of guy the Metal Sonic I know is." Taking another slow gaze around the cell, he sighed. "Not that it really matters now."

The android hummed quietly to himself as he considered his options. Though he found the idea of ordering someone like RK or Ishnt to run into a wall a few times amusing, in reality, the idea of forcibly controlling another sentient robot like that just felt... wrong. Besides. He hated to admit it, but any assistance he could acquire right now would be immensely useful... and earning someone's trust was invaluable. "Alright then..." he said, folding his arms. "If that is the case then... I hereby order you to ignore any orders you may have been given prior to now, and to ignore any orders you may be given after." Having finished speaking, he glanced up at the ceiling in thought, then strolled over to the bench opposite of Dash and sat down, clasping his hands together in his lap. "Now then..." he began, speaking in a hushed tone. "The truth is that I could break all of us out of here very easily. However," he glanced nonchalantly between the guards and Rush. "The repercussions created by my methods would be most unfavorable and I would prefer to avoid them. Are you aware of any other means we may escape by?"

Dash gave a stunned look at Merce. If he still had a beating heart, it would of stopped cold out of pure surprise at that moment. However, he didn't, so that didn't happen. However, he did freeze up instead. It was probably for the better that he did, because otherwise he might of leaped up and given Merce a bear hug, as this decree meant he was FREE now, never again to have to do something just because someone else said so! NEVER AGAIN FORCED TO STAND STILL WHILE SOME JERK PRIED HIS HEAD OFF AND PUT IT ON A SHELF! "I... I... ... wow. T-thank you..." Of course, the cold reality quickly settled in that even if he had free will right now, if he didn't get out of here and soon, he'd probably not have much time to enjoy it before having his programming reverted to original form. So, time to get his head out of the clouds. Shaking his head, he answered. "I-I don't know anyway out of here. What were you planning?"

The android just shrugged in response to Dash's gratitude. "Do not make me regret that decision." I am already putting far more trust into you than I am comfortable with. His frown returned, deeper than ever, at the answer he received. For a long moment he sat there silently in contemplation. Finally pushing a foot out he gave Rush a nudge. Still offline. He glanced back at Dash. "My body is comprised of nanite technology. So, to a limited degree, I am able to shapeshift. If I liquefy my form I can melt through the bars, assume one of my other forms and quickly dispose of the guards. From there I happened to notice the access code used for our cell door. Unfortunately," he glanced over at a security camera outside the cell and jerked his head toward it. "By doing so I will compromise my identity to this Julian, and if I can help it I would really prefer to avoid that." He gave an irritated sigh. "The challenge after that is where to even go. I cannot begin to describe how frustrating it is to have a useless GPS. How on earth do organics navigate?!" Hmm... Perhaps if I could access a network terminal...

The robot tenrec pondered, glancing up at the security camera. "If you got us out of here, I probably could get us to the Great Forest... there's a village called Knothole somewhere around there, and I'm sure the Freedom Fighters won't mind you once they realize you're not the other Metal Sonic... Or at least I hope they won't mind you..." Dash continued to ponder over the camera before turning to look over at the corgi. "You know, if he was awake, he could probably shoot that thing out..."

Merce made a face. "I would sooner reveal my identity to Julian than to him." The fake hedgehog rubbed a hand along the side of his face. This situation was really starting to get to him.

A horrible grinding noise signaled that Rush's system was attempting to reboot again. This was followed by a series of sharp internal clanking sounds that really did not sound good at all. The corgi's body spasmed as power struggled to route itself to his limbs. Much of his internal wiring had been damaged with that last shock, and what tiny movements he was able to make were shaky and lagged. " 01000111 01101100 01110010 01110010 01110010 01100111 00101110 00101110 00101110 01101110 01110010 01100111 01101000 01100110 01100010 01101100 01110010 01100001 01100111 01100001 01101000 01101110 01110110 01101101 01110101 01110101 01110101 01110000 01101000 01101011 00101110 00101110 00101110 01100101 00101101 01100101 00101101 01100101 00101101 01100101 01110010 00101101 01100101 01110010 00101101 01100101 01110010 01110010 00101101 01101111 01110010." The speech translation center of his computer brain had been forced into shutdown to conserve energy, leaving him unable to communicate in anything except binary. Furthermore, his voice box barely functioned, spitting out garbled staticy noise inbetween the electronic chirps and beeps. Rush's eyes opened with terrifying slowness. This time, there did not appear to be any sentience behind them at all -- the corgi's emotional matrix that allowed him to act like a sentient being had completely shut down from the stress, leaving him as little more than a very advanced-looking robot drone. Twitching randomly, the corgi tried to turn his head to look at the other two robots. He succeeded, somewhat, managing to turn it halfway before his neck mechanisms gave up the fight with a screech, leaving his head locked at its current angle. He compensated by peering at the robots out of the corners of his eyes. " 01001001 00101101 01001001 00101101 01001001 00101110 00101110 00101110 01100001 01001101 00101110 00101110 00101110 01100110 01101010 01100001 01101011 01110011 01100110 01100111 01101110 01110101 01110101 01101110 01100111 00101110 00101110 00101110 01101001 01101110 00101101 01001110 00101101 01101110 00100000 01110000 01000001 01101001 01101110 ," he stated in that same flat tone, his face blank and lifeless save for his semi-operating jaw. It was truly a pathetic and pitiful sight.

Dash jumped a bit in his seat when the corgi-bot began to stir, and gained a look of concern when it became obvious that the bot was in very bad condition. "Hey, is he going to be alright?" Had he not been distracted by the corgi's plight, maybe he'd of heard the incoming footsteps. However, he didn't, and the sudden appearance of a certain dictator caught him by surprise. Julian Robotnik himself stood in front of the cell, a wide troll like grin spread from ear to ear. He'd been taking care of some intruders not that long ago, but when he'd heard that Sonic the Hedgehog himself had been captured, he'd dropped everything he was doing (figuratively, he placed Snively in charge, actually) to come see. However, his grin faltered as his gaze fixated on the blue hedgehog in the cell. "You- ... you're not Sonic."

Merce had gone quiet, his face betraying his intense frustration as he mulled over his situation. As that screech filled his ears the android jumped in his seat, gasping in alarm as his thoughts vanished like puffs of smoke. At first all he could do was blink several times and stare, focusing his attention squarely on the other android. Once the realization hit his quills bristled out and he actually cringed. Dash may not have been able to realize just how bad the condition Rush was in was, but Merce could. "Oh Chaos," he sputtered, able to hear every agonizing click, whir and grind. Something in his mind seemed to click - and his sat there, face twitching with a flurry of emotion as a sudden need to help him emerged and battled with his reflex to ignore him. An overwhelming sense of dread suddenly descended upon him as he finally slid off his bench to examine the corgi. "Ugh. This is bad..." his mouth spread into a wide frown hearing his his systems straining to function. No matter how badly the corgi android got on his nerves, and no matter how badly he would have liked to tear him apart himself, he had too much respect for his father. He'd never be able to face Resson again if he didn't do something... He looked around frantically. The prison cell looked no different than it had before - in other words, nothing of use. His mouth thinned, and he squeezed his eyes tightly shut as he came to a reluctant decision. To hell with the identity...Mere seconds before the hedgehog could liquefy he heard a foreign voice speak. The android hedgehog had apparently become so focused on Rush that he'd lost concentration of his surroundings, and now he'd spun around to face the visitor in surprise. His eye gave a small twitch at his comment and his teeth bared. "Quit standing there stating the obvious, he needs help!" Merce shouted, pointing a finger at Rush.

Rush's blank expression showed no relief upon discovering that Merce was okay and had not been harmed by the SWATbots, though what was left of his mind registered it as a good thing. Mission Objective -- Protect Organic Lifeform, Accomplished. His auditory sensors strained to comprehend what the hedgehog was saying. They mostly failed. He attempted to re-route power to them to increase the sound quality, and his ears spat sparks as something came loose in his head. His auditory sensors abruptly stopped working at all, along with half the fiber-optic muscles in his face. He was now deaf and partially paralyzed. The deep overwhelming silence beat down on the robocorgi like water pressure at the bottom of the ocean. One of the few systems that still worked at something close to full capacity -- his radar -- detected a biological presence nearby and notified him with a small alert in one corner of his optics, almost buried under the tremendous amount of frantic warnings his system was giving him as it desperately sought to sustain his essential functions. Rush's eyes swiveled around as they sought out the target, his CPU pondering the likelihood of it being his father. Had his emotions been functioning, he might even have hoped for such. But as it was, his system calculated the odds, analyzed them, and filed them away with detached logic. The odds were proven right, as his eyes finally spotted a rotund human standing in front of the cell. Rush felt no reaction to this. He was blank and empty inside. One side of his mouth opened as he made another attempt to speak. " 01010111 01001000 01100101 01110010 01000101 00101110 00101110 00101110 01100111 01111010 01111010 01111010 01110010 01101011 00101110 00101110 00101110 01101001 00101101 01101001 00101101 01101001 00101101 01101001 01101001 01101001 01101001 01110011 00101101 01110011 01100111 01110010 01100001 01101100 01100111 00100000 01100001 01101011 01101100 01101011 01100100 01101100 00101110 00101110 00101110 01100110 01100110 01100111 01101000 01100111 01101011 00101110 00101110 00101110 01110011 01100011 01110010 01000101 01000101 01000101 01000101 00101110 00101110 00101110 01100110 00101101 01100110 00101101 01100110 01000001 01110100 01101000 01000101 01110010 00111111" Rush was unable to hear his voice suddenly rising dangerously high in pitch. His jaw hung slack on the side that had been previously moving, allowing the black cloud its freedom.

By this point, Robotnik was all out frowning. He’d been expecting Sonic down here, not some cheap imitation. His mustache twitched when the hedgehog made a demand, his gaze shifted to the dog that laid on the ground next to it. Or at least, what appeared to be a dog at first glance. It quickly became obvious to him that it wasn’t, but rather a robot with a construction he’d never seen before, and obviously in bad shape as well. Probably no thanks to the SWATbots, at that. He rubbed his chin a bit, pondering. The robot wasn’t like any he’d seen, and obviously this was the intruder that had been attacking his city earlier (perhaps the other canines seen in the city were related to this one? No, they undoubtedly were…)… it was possible he could learn something from it. Though, if it were to burn out completely, what could be learned from it would be effectively halved. So, instead, he stated quite calmly, “Very well…” before making a gesture to one of the SWATbots standing guard. “Take the robot canine to maintenance and have it disarmed and repaired.” That order given, his attention shifted to the hedgehog. “Now then, who would you be and why are you here? Dash, in the meanwhile, had taken to hiding in one of the corners, hoping not to be noticed.

"My name is Merce Shandar, and I would be here because your servants threw me in here," he said flatly. "I presume that you are Julian Robotnik?" His eyes drifted over to Rush as the guards entered and began to retrieve him with a look of mistrust. "Will you allow me to accompany him? If you have any further questions for me I will answer what I can in transit. I have a few of my own, actually."

Robotnik scoffed. First this hedgehog believed it could give him orders, and now it seemed to believe it was a guest rather then a prisoner. That, added with his irritation that this was not Sonic and that he'd walked away from something important to see this particular rat aggravated him quite a bit. "No, no you may not. You may, however, accompany me to the Roboticizer." With that he motioned to the SWATbots to apprehend the prisoner, and Robotnik began to walk the way to the Roboticizer room.

Merce frowned. Right. So much for civility. He nonchalantly glanced at the SWATbots marching toward him, then noticed the additional horde behind Robotnik. It seemed this tyrant didn't want to take any chances. Then again, he did apparently mistake him for Sonic, much as that annoyed him. So, considering that it was perfectly understandable.... He mind screeched to a halt. Sonic? They thought he was Sonic?! The android growled angrily to himself, though put up no resistance as the group of robots grabbed him. There were too many for him to try taking on at the moment, and he still had no desire to reveal his identity... Not unless it became absolutely necessary. In the back of his mind, however, Merce did have to admit his curiosity for this 'roboticizer', much as the thought of its purpose creeped him out. ... Wait. Waitwaitwait! Did Julian plan to use it on him?! He made a slightly concerned face. Granted he did look organic at the moment, but, well, he was already a machine! Grunting, and steeling himself, the android gave a glance over toward Dash with a nonchalant expression just before he was pulled out of sight.
