The sun had only just begun to peek in through the treetops when the sound of tiny footsteps scampered along the decks of the different huts, accompanied now and then by the creak of a door cracking open, then closing again. This pattern continued several times, until on the last one, the door opened farther. Manipulating the door to the best of his ability (as it was several times larger than himself), Ray slipped his way inside and scurried over to the occupied bed. The squirrel stood up on the tips of his toes in order to see past the edge of the mattress, and for a moment flinched with a short squeak. The face that greeted him... was not what he'd expected. He still recognized her features, but... they were green. Still, it was her, even if she looked funny. The boy smiled and poked her nose, at least partly because that's all he could reach.

The bed's occupant, a tawny colored rabbit currently wearing a mud pack over her face, twitched her nose in agitation of the poke and drew in a deep breath. Otherwise, though, she didn't stir.

What view Ray had over the edge of the mattress became more inquisitive. Why didn't she wake up? And why did she look funny? Was she sick? The squirrel recalled his parents making mention of "looking green" when someone was ill. Tightening his tiny hands around the bedding, Ray hoisted himself up onto the bed for a closer look. Leaning over her on his knees, the boy took Bunnie's cheeks in his hands and tilted her face towards his own. "Oth'Mama?"

The rabbit's face scrunched up in agitation, but didn't awaken. Sluggishly swatting at the annoyance she made a bid to pull away and roll over, mechanical thighs grinding as she struggled.

Ray's nose wrinkled -- at least in part because his palms were now green. The child blinked; looked like this meant she wasn't green with sickness. Unable to ignore his great curiosity in the greater face of waking Bunnie, the squirrel sniffed at the thick goo coating one of his hands, then tentatively licked it. "YUCKY!!" he quickly recoiled, scrunching his face and sticking out his tongue.

One of her ears twitched in response to the boy's cry, and she shifted again, mumbling something unintelligible from beneath the sheets.

Still gagging and choking, Ray took to vehemently wiping his hands off on Bunnie's blanket. So she wasn't sick, but for some reason she had something on her face that would MAKE her sick. Maybe that's why it was on her face, actually; maybe she'd tried to eat it but it came back up in her sleep. ... And he'd just licked it. No wonder it tasted so yucky. In any case, she was now facing away from him, and the tiny squirrel clambered over the rabbot's much bigger body. Now taking a more forward approach, the boy jumped up and down and shook at her upper arm. "OTH'MAMAAAAAA!!"

With a jolt both of the rabbit's ears went straight, and as she gasped her eyes shot open. For as sharp as her gossip hearing was, the name she'd be christened didn't seem to register as she instead opted to stare at the ball of yellow fuzz on top of her. "Ray?"

But rather than greet her, or even get to the reason why he'd invaded her home in the first place, Ray's priorities had shifted. "You sick?"

She blinked, shaking her head. "No, honey, Ah'm just fine. What's up?"

Under the impression that she'd suffered a night time accident indeed, the squirrel showed her the part of her blanket where he'd wiped his hands. "But you ickied!"

The rabbit blinked somewhat sleepily now that the sudden rush was gone. Her eyes drifting toward the mess on her sheets, her nose wrinkled up as she tried to figure out just what it was she was looking at. Her... her blankets! What in the world was...! She blinked, realization blossoming as she recognized the texture and color. Her mud pack! Oh for Aurora's sake. Shifting a bit to sit up she inspected the gunky substance. Ugh, well, looks like it'd be a laundry day, then... But, at the moment, she had other concerns. Looking at Ray she smiled and patted him on the head. "Nah, honey, it's just a special kind of mud." she said assuredly. "S'just something Ah wear at night. Helps me look purdy~"

Ray's head canted slightly. Was 'purdy' another word for 'green'? Regardless, the golden child attempted to wipe his surrogate mother's face with the same blanket. "It's yucky." He gagged again at the memory of such a taste.

"Oh... no, no, Honeybunch, don't use that," the rabbit quickly corrected, putting her hand up to block the boy's attempts. Oh, she only hoped she could get that stain out... She smiled sheepishly. "We use a sink to get this here stuff off." Emphasizing her point, the rabbit shifted out of bed and headed toward the bathroom.

For a moment, Ray was left alone in the bed that dwarfed the little squirrel. At first he wasn't sure if he should tag along or wait, but as he hadn't been given instructions to stay and he was curious anyway, he soon hopped down and scurried after. As with many structures in his life, the sink was far too tall to allow him an easy view. The squirrel examined the height of the counter carefully, then abruptly sprang into the air and latched onto the edge, attempting to haul himself on top.

"Whoop, careful, don't hurt yerself, hon," Bunnie said , glancing aside when she noticed her tag-along. Twisting the tap and glancing into the mirror she noticed two tiny handprints imprinted in the mud on her face. Glancing back down at Ray she chuckled to herself then began wiping the stuff off.

Ray's little mouth seemed to triple in size as he let out a loooong yawn. After all, it was still rather early in the morning, but it didn't look like he'd be going back to sleep too soon. The boy stood on all fours and proceeded to stretch -- first his arms, then his legs -- then twisted his head to scratch the top with his left foot. Settling down again while Bunnie washed up, the squirrel's eyes drifted along the items situated near the sink nozzles. Peering intently, his tiny hand wrapped around an unusual-looking item that seemed to give when he squeezed it. It felt kind of funny in his hands, really; and one end of it was all rolled up. Fiddling further, Ray discovered a twisty thing on the other end, and readily spun it off. This proved to be problematic, however, when he gave it another squeeze, and a big string of goo rocketed out the now open end. "...Wazzat?"

The rabbit looked at Ray, then back at the mirror. Then back again with widened eyes. "Oh, honey, don't squeeze that!" she warned, taking the tube and grimacing at the glob of paste that now rested on the floor. Biting her lip and shutting off the sink, she snatched the toilet paper and began wiping it off. "That was tooth paste," she said in answer to the boy's question, carefully trying to salvage the substance by attempting to get it back in the tube as best she could. After all, tooth paste wasn't something easily replaceable, making it a rather precious commodity.

Meanwhile, Ray's features had all wrinkled up in disgust. "That use'a be TEETH??"

Still struggling with the creamy substance, Bunnie laughed. "Nono," she corrected. "It's used for cleaning teeth. S'not actually made from 'em."

Well THAT was good news. Ray's face shifted back into a smile as he watched his caretaker work. Although, he did feel kind of bad that he'd messed it up and she was fixing it now. He should do something nice. The squirrel grabbed his knees and rocked on his bottom in thought. Gazing back up at Bunnie, and finding the green mud fully cleaned from her face, the child let out a satisfied chirp and pointed. "Pretty!"

The rabbit proceeded to titter loudly, momentarily pausing her work to cover her mouth. She looked at the boy and grinned. "Well aren't ya'll the little gentleman. Thank you!"

"Yer welgum," Ray replied, quite pleased with himself. And yet, the blonde boy wasn't yet satisfied with doing simply that for Bunnie. The squirrel's eyes drifted around the small bathroom while he considered a handful of ideas, until suddenly sitting up straight. Letting out a short, high-pitched squeal, he hopped down from the counter and bolted for the hut door.

The rabbit could only blink quizzically as the boy ran off, her ears twitching toward his direction. Looking down at the glob of paste that still needed to be put back, she sighed dully to herself and continued to work at it. Not exactly how she expected to be spending her morning.

Elsewhere, Ray giggled excitedly as he burst out the door and hopped off the hut row deck. One quick glance to locate a stick later, the squirrel dumped himself into the dirt path and busily went to work etching an image into the ground. Several minutes later, the boy rushed back into Bunnie's home and latched onto her wrist. "Oth'Mama! I drawed for you!"

Nearly dropping the tube from the boy's suddenness, she could only blink for a moment while she attempted to register what she'd just been called. This, somehow, only seemed to baffle her more as she remained rooted firmly in place. "... Otha Mama?"

Sorry, this squirrel was on a mission. Pulling even more insistently, Ray grunted and squealed, "Come seeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Looking at the tube in her hands, she shrugged, setting it down and allowing the boy to lead her. She could inquire about the name again after he'd settled down...

Closing his tiny hands around her comparatively giant organic right hand, Ray tittered and pulled his caretaker toward her door, down the steps, and several inches to the side. At their feet, a crude sketch awaited them in the dirt... vaguely resembling a partially roboticized someone. The golden child turned his eager eyes up to Bunnie, excitedly awaiting her response.

For the first few moments all the rabbit could do was stare at the sand drawing, her artistically keen eyes instantly recognizing its shape and detail. As her moment of surprise faded a smile crept across her face, and in an instant her hand migrated to her mouth to catch a rather loud titter. "Oh mah stars, honeybunch!" she giggled, wrapping an arm around the child and pulling him into her side while ruffling his golden fur. "That's so sweet of ya! Thank you!"
