Athair stood with Tikal, and quickly realized that there was no way she'd be making it back to camp as tired as she was. The elder considered how best to solve this problem, and decided the simplest course of action would be the best. Straightening up more than his use of a cane would suggest he was capable of, the elderly echidna handed the cane to his grandaughter. "If you would please hold this." Then, in a quick move to keep her from protesting much at all, the priest picked up the priestess in both arms, seeming to carry her rather easily. In fact, he almost carried her as if she were still a puggle, at least, as much as her size would allow. I may be old, but I can certainly handle carrying my grandaughter as far as our campsite."Go ahead and sleep, child. You need it after the day you've had." In fact, after the LIFE you've had...Then, the elder began his steady walk back towards camp.

"B-But..." Tikal frowned uncertainly at the idea of being lifted by someone so many generations older than her... but he'd already set off, and didn't seem to be having even the slightest bit of problem. And she really was exhausted. She gaze up at her extended grandfather's face through the dark. Maybe it was the overwhelming urge to sleep skewing her perceptions, but he stirred a great many emotions in the back of her mind, some that had not been awakened in many, many years. And it felt kind of nice, really... Tikal blinked slowly as she began to nod off, her forehead drooping against the side of Athair's chest. Drifting off into unconsciousness, the young echidna idly wondered how long he was going to stay with them. She hoped that it would be a very long time.
