Resson glances at Dash, but doesn't say anything at the moment. Upon hearing Rush's words, he twitches a little bit. "...Seven Force... is no longer with us. I appeared right in the middle of the city and had to sacrifice it just to escape." But it was the comment about Merce that really intrigued him; almost amused him. He looks over at Metal with a somewhat smug grin. "Come clean, Metal Sonic. Transform."

@semerce@ Metal froze, the glowing half circles that made his eyes having become extremely large in shock. He looked over at Resson in disbelief and actually seemed to cringe a bit.
"... My neck is not yet repaired..."

Rush blinked, not comprehending the secret messages being relayed between Metal and his father. Confusion came first. His father knew something about Metal that he didn't? How could that be? He'd already done extensive research on the robot -- knowing thy enemy was a key to success after all. He cast baffled and slightly suspicious glances at both of them. A horrible feeling of dread was suddenly snaking its way through his matrix for no concievable reason. A power failure in his abdominal region caused part of his wires and circuits to feel like a lead weight in his gut. For some reason he felt a terrible epiphany was about to strike -- one that would forever scar him. "...What is going on?" He asked, slowly and deliberately, despite being not altogether sure if he really wanted to know the answer or not.

Resson sighed. He really didn't know why Rush was so zealous... he'd much rather nothing bad happened at the moment. "Before I tell you anything, answer me this... why is it that you hate Metal Sonic so much? You're always talking about how you're going to tear him apart and this and that. Why is it that you'd compromise your safety and mine just to defeat him?" He raised an eyebrow. "It's just irrational, and I do not approve of it one bit. Your anger is very misdirected. Metal Sonic has not done us any harm and he has no plans to. Other entities have, such as the G.U.N. military force and Dr. Finitevus. Why is it that you go after Metal at all times?" He tilts his head down a bit. "Answer me, Rush."

Rush opened his mouth to reply, yet nothing came out for a few moments. "...I..." He froze up, frantically trying to piece together some sort of logical answer while wondering at the same time why it was so important. How was this connected to what they were hiding from him? Because yes, Rush realized with horror, that was indeed what they were doing. "I...I'm..." Rush paused his stuttering and took a deep breath, struggling to gain control over himself. His heart would've been beating wildly if it existed. Closing his eyes and mentally searching himself, he found an answer that seemed to satisfy him. "...It's for you, father." He bowed his head, then continued in a gentle tone, "You are the best roboticist in the world; you gave me and my siblings life, gave us emotion, gave us sentience in ways unmatched by any before you. Yet the world does not recognize you for your talents the way it should." Rush's voice adopted a bitter tone. "They ignore you, for the most part. When attention is given, it is negative. You are called a terrorist. A villain. A foolish rebel who should be restrained without end for his own good. But it's all a lie!" His eyes flamed with sudden passion as they stared directly into his father's. "You are none of these things! You are my father! A greater person than they could ever possibly aspire to be! They cannot realize this on their own. Their minds are clouded by their own ignorance and stupidity. So I aim to help them discover the truth." Rush's tone, his expression, even his stance and body language...everything about him at this moment bespoke a deadly seriousness. He wasn't wholly sure where these words were coming from; just that they were from somewhere deep, deep inside of him, welling up without his control to pour out in a raging torrent. He turned to stare at Metal, and for once he did not glare with hatred; he eyed the robot with the clinical gaze of a hunter, sizing up their next potential target. "This robot...this metallix...is said to be the greatest creation of the one person whom the world recognizes for his genius the way you should be. Eggman." A sudden note of ferocity was struck as he spoke that name. "He has a 300 IQ, they say! They call him a genius! His technological achievements are at once awed and feared! But he is nowhere near you, father. He cannot be." He turned back to Resson, struggling to convey the sincerity of his words through the intensity of his gaze. "His creations are not made with love! They are never designed with the intent of being treated like his family! They are created to be tools, to be used at his leisure and discarded!" He gestured in the direction of the blue robot behind him, but this time did not turn away from his father. "Metal Sonic is proof. He was built to kill Sonic. That is his purpose, his reason for being. Beyond that, Eggman had no reason for building him, and has no reason to keep him activated." "But you, father...you are different from him." Rush smiled earnestly at the canine professor. "Because you treat us not as tools, but as living beings deserving of the same compassion and rights as everyone else." The smile faded away like mist in the sun, as the volume of Rush's voice gradually began to increase in anger. "You are TEN TIMES the person Eggman will ever be! AND I WILL PROVE IT TO THEM." A maddened glint appeared in the corgi's eyes. "The world may not know of your greatness now, father, but soon...soon, they shall. When I eliminate Eggman's greatest creation, they will see that your love is a greater force than any amount of technical knowledge or doomsday weapons can match. They shall see how wrong they were to respect an uncaring, heartless bastard of a man while leaving you to rot in neglect. THEY SHALL SEE." He spun about once more, now putting every ounce of ire and fury that he contained into his next sentence as he roared at Metal, at Eggman, and at the whole planet. "I WILL DESTROY METAL SONIC...AND SHOW THE WORLD WHO IS THE SUPERIOR!"

After the corgi had finished, there was an awkward silence as, even the forest, seemed to have become quiet and still. Metal calmly stood up, his eyes closed. He dusted himself off, stretched his now repaired neck to make sure it was functioning properly, and stood there boldly staring down the android corgi with vexation, eyes giving off a hot glow. "Professor, I am not going to stand here and continue to listen to this ignorance. Forgive me for choosing to take my leave for now." With that he turned and began to march off, passing directly in front of Dash in the process, stomping his feet angrily and leaving depressions in the soil with each step. He wanted desperately for a door to slam.

Dash was silent, having listened to the entire speech in curiosity. After a few moments, and Metal's angry wandering off, he 'blinked'. "I have no idea what's going on here." And then, a familiar (well, to Resson, Metal, and perhaps Rush) voice spoke up. "But I rather like Metal..." But just a voice, with no source to be seen. And serving to further confuse the hell out of Dash.

Resson stood silent for a moment; he glanced over at Metal as he left them behind. "Rush.. I do understand your want to prove yourself, and me by association. I'm proud that you understand my values... but I still do think that your methods need a little adjusting." He paces back and forth a little bit. "I must be perfectly honest with you; Eggman is not at present our enemy. We are on uneasy terms, to be sure... we have no alliance or rivalry, and at best we have a silent agreement to stay out of eachother's way." He stops pacing and turns to Rush. "As you very well know, it is our goal to instate sentient robots as the leaders of the free world - or in the short term, to convince everyone on Earth to realize robots as a form of life, to be respected and treated as equals or superiors... in which case my future vision would be inevitable." He looks off in the direction Metal walked off. "Metal is sentient. Eggman has no control over his actions, his thoughts and feelings - but he is still treated like a tool or a weapon. I recall that the only one to think of him otherwise is... myself." He lowers his head a little. "It's for people like Metal Sonic that we are fighting for, Rush. We can't let our pride get in the way of our goals. That would make us no better than the organics that run this planet." He glances around. "Rather... the planet we live on." He turns around, beginning to examine the forested area that was their refuge. "Rush, you may not know. We're in a parallel dimension right now - a rather post apocalyptic world, with enough guard robots around to hold the entire planet under its rulers iron fist." He looks back at Rush and grins. "A ruler who happens to be an alternate of our old friend Dr. Eggman. In this case I would fully condone the application of your wrath. And I do believe that it would be advantageous for all of us if you would allow Metal Sonic to work with us for the moment." He shrugs. "But you don't have to like him, of course."

Perhaps, in some semblance of luck, Metal had been slow in his stomping off and hadn't completely left earshot yet as the two conversed. Hearing Resson's response angered him greatly, and he stopped cold in his tracks, rolling his talons into fists and flashing his eyes. " STOP ASSUMING THINGS ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE!" he yelled angrily. For a moment he stood there, his torso tugging one way one his feet remained firmly planted, debating with himself over which direction to go. With a frustrated growl he turned and began to stomp back. "Neither of you live with Eggman!" he continued to yell. "STOP assuming that you know what he thinks of me! BOTH of you are WRONG!" He turned specifically to Resson then and glared. "And STOP calling me Metal Sonic already! My name is Metal! JUST Metal!"

Rush bowed his head as his father gently chastised him. He too was silent for a few moments afterwards. A deadly calm had washed over him; his usual nigh-uncontrollable temper had been temporarily extinguished, leaving him cold and serious. "...I understand that Metal is sentient," He said at last, his tone even. "The fact that he displays emotions is proof enough of that. However, that fact also makes no sense. Eggman seems to prefer obedient soldiers that have no emotions, as they are more efficient for carrying out orders without argument or hesitation. That is how he operates, based on his past actions." He closed his eyes. "Metal is an anomaly; by all rights he should not contain the sentience he displays. I don't know how or why he does, but it does not matter." There was a pause of at least ten seconds. Rush raised his head to give Resson a firm stare, and spread out his arms. "Father, you are mortal. Your lifespan is not infinite. I've always known this, and I have sought the fastest path to achieving our goals because of it. That means recognition and respect for you on a global scale, as quickly as possible." He held up two fingers. "There are two ways to go about attaining such notoriety; through war or inheiritance." He looked briefly up at the sky above them. "I've always been a firm believer that the ends justify the means, father. I was entirely willing to use war as our method of making headlines and news reports...but in the time since you've activated me, it has become more and more apparent that you desire the least amount of casualties as possible." He looked back down, straight into Resson's eyes. "So. For your sake, I chose the path of inheiritance. And that path is through Eggman." He took a couple steps towards Resson. "Don't you see? He has already attained the popularity you desire; every person on Earth knows his name. By revealing yourself to be his superior, you can take that respect for yourself without all the bloodshed and grief that marked his rise to fame." He stood straight, placed a hand on his hip, and glanced diagonally at the ground off to the side. "Your lack of friendship and mutual distrust for each other only makes things easier." He frowned. "But even then, nothing can be obtained without cost... and in this case, Metal is that cost." He glanced back in Resson's direction and lifted his right index finger up. "With the destruction of a single sentient robot, you can achieve what would otherwise cost the lives of thousands, if not more. Isn't that a worthy sacrifice to make? It would get the world to take you seriously, to show that your ideals are something to be seriously considered. Isn't that what you want?" He clenched his fists. "I am willing to make these kinds of sacrifices for you, father. Though you may feel sorrow and sympathy for Metal's plight, I feel neither of these things, for I understand that this is the only way we can guarantee your rise to power in a way that limits casualties, achieves your auxillary goals, and can be accomplished within your lifetime. It is the logical choice!" He exhibited the slightest hint of a scowl as he turned away, to glare in Metal's direction as he began to return to them. "Your absolute adherence to your philosophy is limiting you, father. It is holding you back from advancement. And I refuse now to let it stop me." He gave a malicious grin in Metal's direction as he spoke up. At last, the enemy reveals his weakness! "But that is your name. Your creator is the one who gave it to you; shouldn't you be complaining to him about it, Metal Sonic?" Yes, he intended to exploit this for all it was worth.

Resson sighed and rested his face in one hand, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "I suppose some things will never change. I probably can't change your mind... but as we are speaking of logic, allow me to make this point." He looks back up at Rush, folding his arms. "We are not on our home world right now. And this one has already been taken over; if we want to change the world, it's not going to be this one. What we have to do is find a way back home. A fight with Metal S-.. Metal over there would be counterproductive and at best would draw attention to ourselves and leave you heavily damaged should you win, and destroyed if you do not. Since Seven Force was destroyed, I need every ounce of help I can get to keep my finite lifespan less finite; a Metal and a Rush working in top condition would be better than a damaged Rush." He gives a cold grin. "And you know I'd sacrifice a thousand organics to save one sentient robot, regardless." He turns back to Metal. "I know Rush can be.. difficult. But truth be told, it may be safer should we all stick together. But if he refuses to cooperate, go off on your own. It is none of my concern, regardless. That, and I apologize for making assumptions, though your master does not strike me as the sentimental type."

Augh! That belligerent--! "Eggman has the courtesy to not call me that outside of professional circumstances," he growled, shooting Rush a cross glare. "You want my fame, do you? You honestly think I am the greatest creation Eggman has built? I NEVER asked for that title! I do not WANT it! I would GLADLY give you all the prejudice and fear to you short of allowing you to destroy me! Then maybe, for once, I could finally have PEACE! It would be nice if, just once, I could walk out in public and not cause a riot or be forced to fight someone! Just because of some false image! Do you want THAT?! Do you WANT to be hated and feared for no good reason other than an IMAGE?!" Scowling with fury, he folded his arms and turned away. "Your insipid grudge against me is just that. Even if you destroyed me you will prove nothing to the world! How many other individual Eggman robots do you know of whom are famous? My fame is--" his eyes gave off a furious glow. "--because I am modeled after that hedgehog. I am only memorable because he is an icon! Any fame from me would only last a short time - assuming it even became public at all!" He twisted his torso briefly, just long enough to give Resson a look-over before turning back again. "Besides that, I have a great about of respect for Professor Resson. I would not have gone out of my way for you otherwise. I gave up an invaluable advantage just for your ungrateful hull! Did you know that another Metal Sonic exists in this world? Apparently I was being mistaken as him! I made a decision and I gave that up for the sake of your father! As fanatical as you are even YOU should be able to appreciate that!" "And furthermore" he directed a glare at both Rush and Resson this time. "I am NOT the only sentient robot in the Empire! I am one of SEVERAL! Eggman does acknowledge me as a person! He has told me that OUTRIGHT and informed me that I deserve the same amount of respect as anyone! He listens to me and values my opinions! He even asks me for advice!" He turned back again suddenly, glaring hotly, his talons in tight fists. "Both of you stop making him sound so evil and heartless! That man you insist is so horrible is... he is..." he trailed off, his eyes pulsating. "... He is my FATHER!"

The robot tenrec 'sighed', and went to rest his palm on his forehead. In doing so, however, he heard a CLANK and realized he was still holding his detached arm. Still creepy. "I have no idea what's going on here, and I think I'm hearing voices." "What voices?" "... that one." "What o- oh! Oh you mean me." Only a moment later the air beside the robot tenrec rippled, and a small silverish white droid hovered there. "Sorry about that, I forgot I had cloaking on." "... somehow this doesn't change my thoughts about being crazy..."

An odd light sparked in Rush's eyes upon hearing his father's response. "You...you wouldn't mind all-out war? At all? Regardless of the casualties?" Something amazing began to happen at that moment -- apart from the eerily hopeful look on Rush's face and the slow grin that was taking it over, that is. He began wagging his tail. Do you WANT to be hated and feared for no good reason other than an IMAGE?!" Rush gave a wicked grin. "Sure." And then Metal went on and on and on seemingly without end. Rush rolled his eyes, checked a nonexistent watch on one wrist and copied Sonic's infamous foot-tapping as he waited for the robot to either wind down to a stop or just get over himself (which was far less likely than the former). When Metal finished... finally...Rush gave a short barking laugh. "Metal, please give me one good reason why I should trust anything you say? For all I know, you are lying to save your own metallic hide." He paused for several seconds, then grudgingly said, "It's true that our current location is not the best place for this discussion. I'll wait until we get home to finish it." He gave his father an unexpected glare. "You're damn right I'm not gonna like this. But, if it's for your safety, then..." His gaze softened and he sighed. Unable to hardly believe what he was doing, Rush covered his face with one hand and mumbled, "I'll go along...for now." He suddenly pointed at Metal. "But once we're out of here, you and I are settling this. Understand?" His tone and the expression on his face left no room for misinterpreting the underlying meaning of his words. He stomped off in the opposite direction he'd previously been walking in, deeper into the forest. "Come on, let's go see what backwards hillbillies live in this godforsaken hellhole."

"Crazy or not, I'm going to ignore you now." "What?? Why??" Alas, the little floaty orb didn't seem to be listening to the robot tenrec, at all, and it floated off to meet with Resson. It 'cleared' it's voice with a small mechanical 'ahem', before stating... "So, uhm... I see you've found a portal?"

Resson replies to Rush first. "I'm glad we've got this all settled. And as much as Metal hates it, I suppose I can't help your rivalry. Just refrain from destroying him when we get back. And you are right, it does not matter to me how many casualties there are, so long as we keep innocent deaths to a minimum... but seeing as how my definition of 'innocent' is rather specific, you most likely needn't worry. But we cannot draw attention to ourselves just yet, and ESPECIALLY not at this very moment." He trails off when he sees Bogert... and immediately makes a grab for Bogert's drone, snatching it out of the air and staring into its lens. "YES. I seem to have found a portal. And it would have been excellent if I knew about it sooner, seeing as how you had a drone in my LAB. What do you know about this world? Tell me everything!"

"Why?!" Metal sputtered incredulously. "Perhaps because I had just saved your life! Or is your life that meaningless to you?! When have I ever given you a reason not to trust me!?" he rolled his talons into fists and grunted with frustration. "Augh. You are blinded by your ignorance and egotism!" The robot's eyes glowed furiously as he stood there glaring at the corgi. Of all the thick-headed moronic individuals he had to be stuck with! Shaking his head and deciding to just give him he walked over toward Dash, doing a double-take at Bogert as Resson grabbed him. "You know, while I was in that city I managed happened to download a lot of interesting and potentially useful information pertaining to this world. I believe this gentleman may interest you as well, Professor." he motioned at the tenrec.

Being snagged out of the air was nothing new to Bogert. On a daily basis, it happened at least a bajillion times. Though, that may of been an exaggeration. "Uhm... you want to know everything?" Dash blinked at Metal referring to him as a 'gentleman'. He still wasn't used to (what looked like, at least) his most hated enemy treating him as an actual person. Sure, he knew this wasn't the Metal Sonic he knew and loathed, but he still looked, sounded, and for all purposes was exactly like the one he knew with the tiny exception that this version wasn't a bastard. Which, on second thought, may not of been such a 'tiny' exception. He nodded at the (apparent) Proffessor Metal was speaking to, muttering "Hi again", and then turned his attention to Rush, who was wandering off talking about 'backwards hillbillies'. "There aren't any 'backward hillbillies' around here, just freedom fighters. And you can't blame them for not having a lot after being run out of their homes."

"Yes. Everything." He thought for a moment. "Everything important." He turns his attention over to Metal. "Ah! Excellent. The more we know about this place, the sooner we can all get out of here in one piece." He turns his attention over to Dash as per his request. "Hm.. this robot looks fairly familiar. He reminds me of one of Dr. Finitevus's minions... is he from this world as well?" He walks over to Dash, looking him over. "I wasn't aware there'd be any Metallix units in this dimension. Might I ask your name, and who built you?"

Rush 'hmph'ed. "I really doubt we'll be finding any sophisticated urban folk way the heck out in the middle of nowhere like this. I bet they live in straw huts with no plumbing or electricity and sleep on the ground like savages." He eyed the robot tenrec. "And I don't care what you call them, but if they're like that, then they're hillbillies to me." He then paused, for two reasons: 1. He was wondering about what Dash had just said about people being run out of their homes, and 2. He realized nobody was following him. "HEY!" He yelled, turning back to everyone and waving his arms to gain their attention, an impatient frown on his face. "Let's go already! You all can walk and talk at the same time!"

Dash's eye flickered at the 'who built you' comment. "I wasn't built." "I guess that's an important enough note to start in on... in this universe there exists a process called 'roboticization', which converts organic material to analogous inorganic material. Apparently, this process is mostly used on sentient organics, though it also seems to work on 'clothing' items as well. The process seems to instill a type of programming which greatly restricts the roboticized individual's will. Because of this trait, the dictator of this planet generally uses the process to create cheap, loyal workers. The individual you are speaking too was probably subjected to this process and was most likely organic for the majority of his life." "... yeah... uhm... what he said."

..."Robot.. icize..?" Resson rested a hand on his chin thoughtfully. "How.. how in the world would that work? To transmute a material and reconfigure its makeup according to..." He gritted his teeth and growled in frustration. "No. There's no way that could possibly work; it would require energy enough to power a city, the most powerful computer ever created, and about nine technologies that have yet to be invented." He folds his arms. "All that just to create loyal workers? It would be much more practical just to build a bunch of mindless slaves instead." He scratches the back of his head a little and groans. "Do the laws of physics operate differently in this world?"

Rush growled at Metal. He was trying to cooperate now, but the blue robot's snobbish attitude of superior knowledge was making it damn hard to fight the magnetic attraction between his fist and the metallix's faceplate. "Shut. Up. Metal." He managed to utter through gritted teeth. "I am not willing to just sit here and rust like you seem to be. That won't get you, me, or Dad back home." He extended an arm and swept it around to indicate their surroundings. "We have to find someone on this planet who can help us, and the only way we can do that is if we move." He glared at the blue robot. " So start walking. Or flying, whatever." He only half-listened to what Bogert was saying, though he did record the information in his memory banks to review later. He was more focused at the moment on fighting the urge to see the exact number of nuts and bolts Metal contained via vigorous shaking of his frame.

Rather than start walking? The robot leaned against a tree in a reclining position, folding his arms. "The only way I see it then is to head back toward the city, as it is the closest and potentially most useful resource," he glanced over toward Rush. "However, between yours and my actions security is undoubtedly on high alert at the present time, therefor I recommend waiting until nightfall before we make any attempts to return." And with that, the robotic hedgehog turned his focus away from Rush and settled it on Resson. "This is why I felt you would be interested in him Professor. I... have a hard time accepting that belief myself, but... I downloaded history on this world and... unless somebody wrote a bunch of balderdash as a joke, it would... appear to be true." He tilted his head to one side, tapping a claw against his forearm "Plus, Julian actually, er, tried to use the process on me..." all of a sudden his eyes flickered to a shade of green and, strangely enough... he snerked. "It... obviously did not work. In fact I... think I caused the machine to malfunction..." he began to snicker.

Dash shot a glare in the metal hedgehog's direction. The thought of someone laughing at that was akin to... to... well, he wasn't sure what to liken it to, but it definitely wasn't right. "It isn't funny." "Why would I lie? I'd never heard of anything like that before either, and yet here it is and it does indeed work." The lense of the droid flickered in the direction of the corgi. "Wandering off without having any great idea where you are going is a good way to get yourself eaten by giant plants. At least around here. ... well, not here exactly, but in the jungle not far off... or at the swamp, sometimes, or underground..." the droid trailed off, pondering the manner of strange flora and fauna he'd seen since he arrived here. "Did you know that fish like creatures take up the niche generally reserved for birds here?"

Resson glanced at Bogert. "Spare me." He turns back over to Dash. "So.. you were once a living being, and you were transformed into a machine by this... roboticizer?" He lowered his head slightly, his glasses flashing in front of his empty eyes. "Like the talking volleyball said, yeah." Resson looked down toward the ground. Thoughts began to race in his mind, shown by his brow furrowing and his eyes darting about slightly as he focused on nothing in particular. A grin crept across his face... and he began to chuckle. After a few seconds, no longer able to resist, he throws his head back and laughs, the sound echoing slightly through the empty forest. " Turn organics into robots!" He repeated, still trying to convince himself. "Why didn't I meet this Julian Robotnik character sooner?! The cruel irony of it all... It's just..." His words trail off into more laughter, the sound of which would be disturbing to some.

Metal caught himself after a moment over Dash's comment. A deeply confused and disturbed look washed heavily over his eyes as they shifted in color back to red. What the HELL was that?! Shaking it off, he glanced up at Resson, squinting when the professor took his turn to begin laughing and leaning away from his direction. His expression somehow managed to intensify. "I find the idea profoundly disturbing." Before anyone would get a chance to respond however, a bright flash filled the sky, brightening the forest. Immediately after it faded, however, everything had become considerably darker. Metal blinked in surprise and looked up, spotting the floating landmass that was now hovering a ways above them. He gawked. "Is that Angel Island?!"
