"Ok Sonic!" Tails said to the hedgehog, now that Ray was in the right place. Sonic just shrugged and took up a position opposite Tails. "Ok little bro. One...two...three!" At three he tossed the puck onto the ground between them. There was a brief struggle over the puck, but Tails quickly won out, giving it a good smack towards Sonic's goal. Immediatly the two dashed after it, Sonic barely using his speed at all to make it fair.

Ray's mouth dropped as he watched what to him appeared to be a barbaric battle. Maaaaybe he'd been wrong when he likened this game to the one he played with his dad. His father was a stern man, sure, but their games had never been so... violent. The squirrel gulped and felt his weak knees shake beneath him. He hoped desperately the two would stay far, far away from the goal he apparently was supposed to be protecting.

The action continued on Sonic's side of the field for a bit, but then suddenly Sonic managed to gain control of the puck and started driving towards the other goal. "Heads up Ray!" Tails shouted as Sonic sent a shot his way. [dice=11][rand=95154887133665035062154164182873869944488618025444544360006754563]

[dice=12] POW. Before he could even realize what was happening, the puck had smacked him directly in the face. Ray tumbled to the ground with a gut-wrenching scream, curling up and clamping his hands onto his heavily bleeding muzzle.[rand=01970836186108893699628599829629999189739490582435303431564673333]

Sonic and Tails' reactions were identical. "Aw crap!" "Hey, language mister!" Sonic scolded reflexively before dashing over to Ray. "Here, let me take a look, little guy," he said, gently trying to get the little squirrel to remove his hands so he could see the damage.

Hardly a match for Sonic's strength, Ray's tiny hands were lifted from his face quite easily, though getting a good look at him could present a challenge given how hard he'd begun to cry. Blood draining from his nose had already gotten smeared all over his face, save for the trails cleaned by his tears. Ray probably would've tried to communicate his pain, but as uncontrollably as he was bleating, it was probably impossible in that moment.

Sonic took one look at the damage and sighed. It looked bad, sure, but it didn't look very serious either. "Tails, stay here with him, I'll go get Rosie!" Sonic told Tails before vanishing in a gust of wind. Meanwhile, Tails looked about ready to cry himself. "I'm sorry Ray... This was supposed to be fun, you weren't supposed 'ta get hurt!"

The little squirrel had already clamped his equally little paws back over his muzzle, muffling his wails of pain and staining the healthy patches of his golden fur. As soon as Tails had drawn close enough, however, Ray's hands left his aching face to clamp hold of the kit. "ITHURTSITHURTSITHURTS!!" he finally managed to whimper.

"It'll be ok, Ray," Tails said, trying to comfort him, "Rosie'll make it better, she'd good at stuff like that!"

Ray seemed to find a small sense of comfort from the kit's words. He wasn't really that seriously injured; more than anything he was startled because he'd never experienced such an intense and concentrated dose of pain before. Aside from scrapes and falls and bumps and bruises, Ray's life had been sheltered to the point that he'd lived relatively injury-free, and though fleas and hunger had been a constant ache in his life, they'd been a given for so long that he was actually somewhat numb to them. Man, Knothole was giving the little squirrel a crash-course all around.

A second later there was a boom heralding the return of Sonic, who was carrying Rosie, who in turn was carrying a first aid kit over one shoulder. "Oh dear, oh dear..." she muttered, rushing over to Ray and gently separating him from Tails. "All right, let's have a look..." she said soothingly.

At last, a moment where the presence of an unknown didn't escalate Ray's feelings of panic and insecurity. Rosie may have startled him back at breakfast, but right now the need to cease the pain in his nose overpowered all other perogatives. The tiny squirrel made no escape attempt for once as Rosie examined him. "M-M-MAKEITNOTHUUUURT!!" he struggled to wail.

"There there..." she said gently, as she lightly took a towellette and wiped his face, "It's not all that bad, just a bloody nose. Give it a couple minutes dear, and it'll feel better, though it'll be sore for a while."

As Rosie predicted, the pain did gradually subside, but that didn't stop the squirrel's crying. Ray trembled and buried his face in the furry membranes of his arms. " I want my mommy!!"

"Oh yes, I know..." she told Ray, giving him a gentle hug. "She can't be here right now, but I promise you we'll do eveything we can to make sure you see her again." She then tured her gaze on Sonic and Tails, but it was anything other than comforting. *GULP!* "You two should know better by now! I don't think I can count the number of times I've told you to find some safety equipment! You're lucky he wasn't seriously hurt!"

By this time the squirrel's cries had died down considerably, but mostly because they'd simply been replaced with hiccups. A series of rapid but muffled squeaks and hics fluttered from the muzzle Ray still tenderly nursed with his tiny paws. His face was twisted with what obviously was pain, but suddenly it contorted in a different way. Ray's damp features scrunched inward toward the middle of his face... like he was holding back a sneeze. And that's exactly what he did a couple of seconds later. Out of nowhere the squirrel gasped in a hard breath and sneezed it back out, showering whoever happened to be in his path with sticky gobs of mucus and blood. (1 = Sonic, 2 = Tails, 3 = Rosie, 4 = Sonic & Tails, 5 = everyone, 6 = no one) [dice=6][rand=59642400959337175257297494708818826044422454578311647460883208]

Caught under the ire of woodchuck wrath, the two didn't even get a chance to move before they were sprayed with squirrel mucus. "Auugh, eww, gross!" Tails said as he raised his arms in a futile attempt to shielf himself. "Aw man...this is murder on the 'ol do!" Sonic exclaimed, not feeling any better about it. However Ray's sneeze did seem to have the side effect of stalling said wrath. "Oh dear," Rosie said, pulling a hankerchief out of a pocket and, mindful of the fact that it probably was still sore, carefully wiped his nose.

"Oww www..." Ray whimpered, but luckily he didn't start to cry again. Didn't stop him from shying away from Rosie again, but he at least was silent. The squirrel tentatively touched his muzzle, and recoiled from his own hand with a soft whine. It was definitely still tender... but not the excrutiating agony he'd been enveloped with not long ago. That was a pain so intense he'd thought he was about to die. Suddenly the bumps, bruises, and scrapes he tended to accumulate in his clumsiness didn't seem so bad anymore. Not that it would keep him from crying when they occurred in the future, I'm sure, but he'd at least learned that things could be worse. Ray sniffed cautiously, careful not to upset his sore nose, then looked over at Sonic and Tails, covered in his sneeze spray. His golden ears folded backwards. " S-Sorry."

"Oh it's all right, deary. Let's go somewhere and get you cleaned up properly." she said, heading off towards her hut.

Ray frowned, and didn't immediately move. Rosie still unnerved him... but she'd done wonders to make his nose stop hurting. And quite frankly he did not want to play that game with Tails and the fast noisy spikey guy. Actually, what he really wanted was to find that nice lady again. Even if she WAS part robot, she made him feel safe -- and didn't whack him in the face with hockey pucks. Unfortunately, she wasn't an option, and Ray just sort of hopped from foot to foot for a moment before bolting off after Rosie. " W-waitformeeeeee!!"
