Crash just chuckled, and shook his head. "I'm thure you're jutht modest. I mean, half the time I can't even predict what I'm gonna be wearing on a given day." He then glanced around, as if he was about to impart a great secret. "And what maketh it worthe ith that... what you thee me in right now? It'th all I got." He then let out a chuckle, returning his attention to the path.

"Don't worry," Tikal assured him, "this is all I have, too! Probably even less, in the near future." She opened her mouth to say more, but upon a second's more thought, decided better of it. There were more pressing matters at hand, anyway. The pair was now well within the battle wreckage, and it was time to perform the task she'd come to do. Rather than searching about blindly, the priestess straightened her posture and closed her eyes, folding her paws lightly across her breast. She did not say a word, or make any other sound for that matter; actually, it kind of looked like she was meditating while still on her feet.

Crash blinked at her response, and turned towards her. "What'th that thupposed to-" But he paused as he saw her... well, he wasn't sure WHAT she was doing, but he had a feeling he shouldn't interrupt her... so he took a step back, and started looking around. from where he now stood.

Tikal remained still and silent for several minutes, until suddenly opening her eyes and looking pointedly to her left. The echidna approached what looked like just a large, dirty rock. Her face seemed more curious than anything, and the priestess carefully lowered herself to her knees and began to dig. Her hands had barely gone three inches into the soil before she felt a smooth edge. Blinking once, Tikal set her sandals into the dirt and began to pull. To her surprise, it didn't even budge. I probably should've dug more... Oh well, I'm sure I can do this. I just need to try harder! Taking a quick breath, the echidna girl jerked back with all of her might, letting out a strained grunt, her face beginning to redden with tension. All of a sudden, the object jarred loose with a comical 'pop', and Tikal found herself tumbling onto her backside with a surprised yelp, a smeared and gritty Swatbot helmet clutched tightly in her hands.

The wolverine watched as Tikal walked past him, then darted over once she pulled her prize from the ground, laughing a little to himself. "You ok?" Then, he turned his attention to the robot's head, smirking slightly. "Lookth like one of our 'friendth' went all to piethes." Crash blinked, and wiped some of the grit away, revealing dents, like someone had taken a big rock to the automaton. "Whoa... thomebody did a number on thith thing, huh?"

Sitting back up and rubbing idly at her tail end, Tikal took a look at what Crash was referring to. The girl chuckled, but in a somewhat muted way; she didn't have to look twice to recognize that handiwork. "Yeah... That was my father." Turning her attention back to where she'd uncovered the Swattie head, the echidna resumed her digging. She wasn't wrong again, was she?

Now... Crash was a bit impressed by this woman's father. He must be a regular mountain of echidna... but then he saw her start digging AGAIN, in the same place. Moving the helmet aside, then knelt down at the side of the hole she was digging, and looked over at her. "Need a hand?"

Tikal didn't immediately answer. Her hands grazed through the dirt carefully, only shifting a light layer at a time. It was evident she was going out of her way to feel what was below the surface before foraging deeper. Luckily, she didn't have to spend very long. The priestess's features brightened as she latched hold of what looked like a strip of fabric, and began to pull once more. This time, with far less resistance, an extremely dirty rucksack emerged from the cold, dark soil. Tikal, overjoyed at the recovery, immediately wrapped the bag in a hug, despite the fact that it dirtied her fur in the process. " Daddy'll be so happy!!"

With a smile, the wolverine sat back on his haunches. "Gueth not." Taking another look around, Crash stood, wondering if he could find anything else worth salvaging. Although he was still going to talk to Tikal while doing so. "Been looking for that, have ya?"

The echidna girl rose to her feet and gave Crash a relieved smile, her muzzle blackened with dirt. "I... well... My father was...... When I ab-bandoned him, my father lost this in the battle. ... He got injured, too." Tikal glanced at the bundle in her arms. "I'm hoping that by bringing this back, he'll forgive me at least a little."

Without really thinking about it, Crash was already responding as he turned to look at her and her precious cargo. "Well, if he doesthn't, then he'th a genuine jerk." The wolverine paused, a little startled at his own bluntness. "Thorry, like I thaid, been a while thince I latht talked to anyone. My mouth tharts running on it'th own."

"I understand," Tikal replied distantly, her expression dampening, "but... it's not really a fair judgement." Turning her shame-filled eyes to her companion, the echidna continued, "If we were attacked right now, and I abandoned you to fend for yourself, and you not only got wounded but also lost important possessions, and then learned on top of it all that I knew it was coming and never informed you... wouldn't you be pretty outraged, too?"

Crash thought about the question for a moment, scratching his chin while looking up into the sky. "Honethtly? If I had managed to get away, even injured? No, I wouldn't. I'd be glad I wath alive and not..." The wolverine paused, and looked away for a minute, seeming lost in thought. "I'd jutht be glad no one was captured by the THWATs, frankly. Even if every bone in my body wath broken."

He's really going out of his way to make me feel better, the priestess thought idly to herself as she listened. I wonder why he tries so hard. Maybe he just thinks I'm pretty or something. "Thank you," she said aloud. Though she smiled, Tikal's eyes carried the same sense of guilt as they ever did. "You are too kind." At that moment, the young woman turned and began to shuffle back in the direction they'd come. "I should probably take this back before I lose it or something. Would you like to come along, or will you be staying here?"

Of course, if Crash had known Tikal's assumption, he would most likely be blushing, even through his fur, but as he didn't... well, he didn't. Instead, just smiled. "I'm jutht being honetht, I don't uthually thay thuff if I don't mean it." Subconsciously, he started walking with the echidna as she started heading back, before he even thought to answer her. "If it'd be ok with your dad and your grandpa, having thomeone to talk to bethides mythelf would be nithe."

"Well, I'm sure the Elder will be accomodating," Tikal admitted in something of a tense tone, "but, um... You might just want to stay away from my father. He's... He's still in a foul mood."

Actually pausing in midstride, Crash glanced back at the remains of the SWATbot they've found covering the bag. "... ... That... thoundth like a good idea, acthually."
