Zack snatched it back and immediately placed his weight onto it with a slightly relieved look. That was MUCH better. "Hm," he said in response to Vize's retort. "Thanks. Now come over here." He gave the squirrel a tap in the leg with his cane, indicating he meant him specifically, and without bothering to wait for Vize or the others to ask him why, the echidna turned and began to walk off toward a nearby alley.

@barby@ While that squirrel seemed familiar, there were other matters that Barby wondered right now, like the alley the robot guy led them.
Yeah, an alley...which doesn't deem a pleasant place for a girl who usually gets lost in bad areas in Westopolis. One of the many reasons she hates cities. Barby flexed her fingers, ready to pull out her hockey stick if this creepy guy tries anything. "Oi, mind telling where you're taking us?"

The echidna stopped in his tracks, leaning against his cane and taking a few good deep breaths to help steady his voice, as in his current condition he found it difficult to walk and talk at once. "My shop," he answered, then noticed the three trying to follow him. "What. You three have some sort of fascination with alleys? Stand there."

Vize simply nodded, and followed Zachary, one hand absentmindedly wandering to one of his pouches, clasping around a transistor. There was no real reason for him to do so, except it helped him feel a little calmer. And it was starting to set in that he really WASN'T on his homeworld anymore.

@barby@ "Well yeah!" she responded sarcastically. "Cuz usually alleys are where idiots, that want to beat you up, 'angs around in."
@serotor@ This will not bode well, Rotor though as he clenched his teeth in nervousness, hoping Barby will shut up.

Zack turned and gave the girl a nettled look. "You're not very bright, are you?" he shook his head, "Whatever." Walking back into the alley, ignoring whatever outburst Barby might have had for him, he set his cane against the wall and crouched down between a set of trash cans to retrieve the device he'd hidden there earlier. He then turned toward Vize and held it out for him. "Hold this for me, will you? But don't touch anything on it."

Vize nodded again, taking the device, and looking it over, although like Zack asked, he didn't touch anything on it... even though he REALLY wanted to take it apart and see what it was supposed to do.

@barby@ The face of an angry lion was nothing compared to Barby's face. "You robo-grampa! I'll give you bright!" she was about to walk over to him, if not for Rotor holding her back.

Amy had a wry grin on her face from the insult directed towards Barby. Otherwise she was curiously waiting for this... whatever-he-was... to finish what he was doing.

Zachary merely rolled his eyes as he took his cane, still holding the light ball in his opposite hand, and walked back. "You know, for a kid who just survived a plane wreck with barely a scratch, you sure are an ungrateful snot," he said, giving her a hard glare. "Now shut your mouth and behave or I'm leaving you here in the dark."

@barby@ The koala glared, "Scratch??" she held up her bandaged arm. "Speak for yourself! We've nearly been shot by brain-dead army guys! What do you expect me to-MPPH!!"
@serotor@ That would be Rotor's hand covering her mouth. "She...had a bad day. Listen sir, I don't know you'll believe where we come from, but we're only here to look for some friends of ours. How we got here was out of our hands. But we apologize, none of the less."
@barby@ Normally, she would bite the hand of anyone who do this to her, but since this was Rotor, Barby only growled, calming down for now.

Vize followed the echidna back to the others, still quiet as he put the device in an empty pocket. He was still a bit unsettled, although... NOW he recognized the koala! "... Barby!?" He thought he'd been rid of her LONG ago!

"You know, I agree with the guy with the light." Amy said, frowning condencendingly at Barby. "You're being a total jerk which means it's probably that time of the month."

"Rotor," he spoke the name slowly, pulling it from his memory as he looked the walrus up and down. "I think I'm starting to be able to believe whatever story you have." Without elaborating, the echidna turned and began to walk off again, leaning heavily on his cane and wheezing slightly. Luckily, the building that doubled as both his shop and home had only been a few couple blocks away. It was a small two story building, the ground floor being the workshop area. In what light provided by Zack it could be seen to be littered with various equipment, gadgets (some both recognizable to the group and some not), a couple of work benches with tools strewn all over them... the whole place had a grimy unkempt feel to it, very much matching the dirty unkempt look of the echidna himself. Zachary wandered toward the back where a small generator sat, tinkering with it until the shop's lights suddenly lit up. "There. That'll last a few hours," he said, closing his fist and dispersing the energy. "Boy, hand me that gadget," he asked as he headed over toward his work desk.

Vize rummaged in his pouch, and fished out the gadget in question, handing it over. "Uhm... what exactly IS it?"

@serotor@ Rotor decided to hold his question while Zack led them to his lab and worked on the power...while Barby sat somewhere in the corner and sulked. It seems obvious this man knew his counterpart, but he couldn't help but ask the obvious...
"You knew my name. I guess that means you know my counterpart, huh?" He only met this world's Rotor briefly before he disappeared within that chaos those SWATbots and that giant jet brought. Probably he warped back to this world.

"Smart kid, lives a ways over in Knothole," he gestured off toward the side with one hand, taking the device with the other. "He's gonna be a hero if he ever gets that deroboticizer of his working right." Setting the device down and taking a seat, he switched one of his mechanical fingers into tool mode and began to tweak at its controls. "As for what this is - it's supposed to be a power stone radar, but I haven't gotten it perfected yet. Unfortunately I don't have the sixth sense some echidnas have, and..." his expression turned into a scowl, "... some creature just stole the stone that makes this cavern inhabitable."

Amy was glancing around the place casually. It kind of looked like Tails' place, even though it was more grimey than the kit's home. She was about to ask what a deroboticizer was, before she was halted by Zack's announcement of his species. "... You're not a pangolin?" she asked with surprise, looking at Zack's tail to find a decisively ECHIDNEAN tail. To her knowledge, Knuckles had been the only echidna alive. Did this world have many echidnas, or was Zack just as special as Knuckles?

Vize considered the echidna's response, and, well, pretty much ignored Amy as he started rummaging in his pouches. "If you want, I think I could at least give you some higher quality parts. No offense, but that thing looks about ready to fall apart."

@serotor@ And Rotor never paid attention to those kind of details, plus the robot parts made it difficult for him to notice Zack was an echidna. Also, he was in thought about the other Rotor and this...deroboticizer. He heard from Eggman about this roboticizer that the Eggman of this world uses, but he wasn't sure how it's supposed to turn people into robots. What, that if it just coats you with robotic armor like Eggman used to do (or maybe still does) with his Badniks, only with anthros? Or...
...well, looking at Zack now, if it was like Badniks, Zack would've got rid of those robot limbs long ago.
Oh man... he thought, sadly. Rotor hates it when people with great minds use it for the wrong purposes. This was just low.

"... A whatagain?" he asked, shooting a confused glance at Amy. "I just said I'm an echidna, what, are you deaf or something?" Glancing over at Vize, then down at the device on his desk, the echidna frowned. Despite the fact it was something he'd been working on for awhile, it did look fairly cobbled together from the mess of parts he managed to scrounge together. He gave a frustrated grunt. "Kid, I'm in too big a hurry to mess around trying to replace parts in this thing." In emphasis to his stubbornness, Zack picked the device up and gave it a wave around the room, hoping to pick something up. [dice=2] Nothing. Nothing he'd be able to pinpoint at the very least. " Dog gone stupid range on this thing..." he muttered.[rand=4412480262657752130479100941178270783932772171625940378587007934]

Amy put her hands on her hips and made a sort of "HMPH!" sound at the tone of Zack's response. "Well in all honesty, everyone back home knows that Knuckles is the last of the echidnas. I was just suprised." She explained.

Vize watched Zack's unsuccessful use of the Power Stone Radar for a moment, and then frowned, his urge to tinker overwhelming him. In a sudden movement, the squirrel snatched the device out of the echidna's hand, and sat down. Then, in the course of thirty seconds, he dismantled the device in its entirety, studied it, the reassembled it exactly as it had been before. "So that's how it works..." The squirrel then fished his Emerald Radar out of his pouch, along with some other parts, and in another 15 seconds, disassembled IT, and modified it into a Power Stone radar much like Zack's, albeit of higher quality. Handing both devices to the inventor, Vize just smiled. "Here. Try mine."

@serotor@ Well...Rotor noticed THAT. While Rotor was skilled in larger machines and vehicles, he still has trouble with most smaller devices and gizmos. Seeing this guy improved the radar, or at least he thought he did, in record time and ease...he was jealous if not amazed.
"Whoa..."

"Hey! HEY! HEY!" Zack protested, throwing his hands up and waving them frantically as his work was literally snatched from his hand and disassembled before his eyes. "What do you think you're doing?!" he spoke with an air of frantic helplessness. "That thing took me weeks to make!" The echidna could only stare in disbelief as both devices were held out for him. Not in awe as Rotor, but... shock and horror. Like a lit match his teeth grit angrily. "Kid, do you have any idea what you just did?!" he bellowed, snatching only his device away from the squirrel and tromping off furiously, frantically manipulating its controls in the hope it might pick something up.

Vize was... surprised to say the least as Zack stormed off, shaking his head a little. "Sorry, thought it'd help." With a snort, the squirrel then activated his own Radar, which started beeping softly. "Ok... where are you, ya special little rock?"

Zack wandered off to another part of the room. When his radar had failed to pick up anything he just sat it down, leaned his hand against a wall and massaged his temple with the opposite, thoroughly convinced it was ruined and contemplating over just what in the world he was going to do now. Under his still slightly ragged breath he could be heard muttering something angrily to himself. The words "Griff", "Knothole" and "Power Stone" could be made out if one listened close enough. Hearing the boy's apology, a surge of energy rushed through him. Gritting his teeth again, Zachary had to restrain himself from whirling around and acquainting Vize's face with his fist. "You're sorry," he spat in disgust. "You've basically just doomed an entire village playing inventor with my delicate equipment and you're sorry! That stone is what makes this cavern inhabitable!"

A sinking feeling began to grow within Amy as she watched the scene unfold. "Well... what exactly happens when the stone is missing?" she said tentatively, her imagination running wild. Were they going to be washed away by a flood, or had this place been built within a volcano... it didn't feel hot but still you never know.

Vize's frown deepened, as the beeping of his Radar continued, it's search for the Power Stone unaffected by the anger of the echidna, or the fouled mood of its owner. With a snort, Vize kept his attention on the screen, hoping for something... ANYTHING to come up on it... And he got something. Faint, but it was there... "Hey! Come look at this, I think I've got a reading on it!"

The look of disgust on Zack's face only deepened as Vize spoke. "Boy, quit screwing around," he growled, now stomping back toward him. "You couldn't possibly have gotten that thing--" he snatched the device from the squirrel's hand and paused, knitting his brow together as he took a couple seconds to study its readings over. Though still somewhat skeptical, the fact of the matter is the dog gone thing seemed to be picking up something. " Meh, better lead than nothing." He cleared his throat, noticing that the trace, however faint it was, seemed to be coming from somewhere above. Which, of course, implied only one thing to the mechanic. "Lidah, Antowas and Astal, where the hell is Griff when I need him?!" Zachary set the device down, then turned his focus toward pulling out a filter mask and tying it to his face. As he did, he spoke; "Alright, since you asked," he said, glancing over at Amy, "The Power Stone's responsible for basically everything down here. Ventilation, light, water... We can't survive here without it," his face contorted bitterly. "I'm supposed to be the guy responsible for it."
