The wooden door slitted open, a shaft of light piercing into the otherwise darkened bedroom. A set of peridot eyes peered concernedly into the dimness, toward the bed. "Rouge?" Rob asked softly. Failing to receive an answer the archer carefully pulled the door further open with an opposing moan and slipped quietly across the threshold. There across the room lay the snow colored bat of his affection, and his tendency for detail quickly noted her bedsheets were undisturbed... as if she hadn't moved at all since he had placed her there the evening before. "Rouge?" he asked again slightly louder. The expression of worry in his face was unmistakable.

Her features remained unchanged in spite of Rob's attempts to get her attention. The only movement came from the blanket, and her arm folded over top of it, slowly rising and falling with the draw of a breath.

The hedgehog frowned, his mouth twisting over to one side. His worry and fears began to multiply in the back of his mind, but he pushed them aside. Letting either get to him wasn't going to help anything, after all. Slowly he crept across the floor until he stood at her side. "Hey, Rouge, dove," he said, gently nudging her arm. "Wake up, it's a might late to sleep in."

Silence. Her ear did happen to twitch at that moment, but unfortunately, it was probably just a muscle spasm.

"Rouge?" Rob continued to call, shaking her harder. Each second that passed without seeing her stir caused that nagging worry to creep further and further upon him. Still frowning, the archer sat down onto the bed beside the bat and eyed her critically, his mind swimming with thoughts, possibilities, memories of how she'd been the day before, wondering what could have afflicted her... His instinct told him to get help, but their resident doctor was out on a trip right now. What to do? He had no medical experience, what could he possibly do besides sit there uselessly? With a deep exhale he leaned forward, clutching his head into his hands. " Please wake up."

A moment later, the door groaned with the entrance of another visitor. Having decided to tag along in lieu of getting to work at the tower, Espio peeked around the dim room in surprise. "Hey Rob, how come Rouge is allowed to sleep so late and the rest of us aren't?" he idly asked, wandering to the closest lanturn and searching for matches.

The archer's head raised, glancing over toward the young chameleon, then back down at the lady at his side. Gently he placed his hand on top of hers and squeezed it. "She's... She's not sleeping." he answered weakly.

The sharp KZZSH of a struck match pierced the air, and as the boy carefully lit the lanturn, a gentle pulse of light overtook the room. Espio had intended to light the others as well, but... something about the tone of Rob's voice was oddly unsettling. The chameleon turned to glance at the two on the bed, and quickly forgot about his previous endeavor. "Well, I never thought she was asleep asleep," he replied with less enthusiasm, as if mirroring his guardian's disposition. "I mean, she reacted to me when I came in before..." Approaching from the other side of the bed, Espio set the covered candle on the night stand and peered at the bat through the lingering dark. " Is she sick...?"

"Aye," Rob weakly replied. "Yesterday she was having dizzy spells and then I found her laying in the garden." He leaned forward again, rubbing at his temple. "I managed to wake her but then she fainted again into my arms... I carried her back but it doesn't seem she's moved at all since then..."

Espio's features twisted with anxiety as he listened. It was less Rouge's condition that unnerved him so much as Rob's reaction to it. No matter the situation, Rob had always been the calm one with all the answers. Seeing him so clearly shaken... Espio suddenly didn't feel quite as safe and secure as he normally did. "Um... Want me to go find Cyril??" he asked in what was barely above a whimper.

"Cyril's gone. He went on that trip, remember? He won't be back for awhile yet." Rob groaned, now taking to rub at his face and forehead. I don't know what else to do. The hedgehog sighed, grabbing at the sides of his hood and pulling them further forward over his face. "Espio, why aren't you at the watch tower?"

"Does it matter?!" the teen shrilly retorted. "If Rouge is sick and we can't help her, then..! Then...!!!" Without warning the chameleon grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her a sharp shake. "WAKE UP, DAMMIT!!" Her body jolted, and in what was probably a great surprise, partially opened her eyes. Espio let out a relieved sigh and released his grip. "Oh FINALLY!! Geez, that wasn't funny, Rouge!! You had me an' Rob scared and EVERYTHING!!"

Rob's eyes widened at the boy's impulsive behavior, his quills bristling beneath his hood in surprise and anger. "ESPIO! What the BLOODY--" he paused as the bat's eyes slitted open, and in an instant he was to the opposite side of the bed shoving Espio into the floor. "Rouge?!" he called out excitedly.

"OW!!" Espio grumbled from behind him, rubbing his butt more in irritation than because it was injured. " I know yer hot for her, but you don't gotta take it out on ME!" What could be seen of Rouge's eyes were glazed, and while they pointed up at Rob, didn't seem to actually focus on him or anything else. At least it meant that she hadn't heard that last comment?

Honestly, Rob hadn't meant to shove him. And, really, he hadn't even realized he had either. Having been so excited to see Rouge stir he had just sort of... forgot himself. "Rouge?! Are you okay?! How do you feel?!" he asked quickly. Each second that passed with no response caused the archer's heart to plummet further into the void his chest had suddenly become. The dead stare in her eyes said it all, and he tightened his hands around a wad of her bedsheets. " Espio get to your post."

"I'm goin', I'm goin'," the chameleon muttered, already on his way for the door even as he was being scolded. As he disappeared onto the boardwalk, his voice just barely carried back as saying, " I bet if I did something like that I'd get blasted for it!"

Once the teen had left Rob gave a heavy sigh, sitting back down beside Rouge. Reaching a hand over to closer her eyes, for a long moment after he simply stared at her. Then, hesitantly, he brought a hand up back up and then paused it in the air, thinking over what he was about to do. Finally he reached out and gently began to stroke at her hair. " What's wrong?" he asked. "What can I do to help? I'll do anything." Of course, he never expected her to answer. Instead he sighed, bringing his hand back to his lap and hanging his head sadly.
