Carrying a furry yellow little bundle in her arms, Bunnie shifted his weight enough to allow her to get the kitchen door open. "Alright hon," she said, attempting to set him down in a nearby chair. "Let's see what we can find for ya'll..."

Said yellow bundle maintained his shape relatively well; Ray quickly curled up in his seat upon being released. The child's weak cries peppered the air among other noises drifting in the window, and his big, pleading eyes followed Bunnie around the room as she began to rummage about.

Bunnie sighed softly to herself, taking to rummaging around in the fridge. After a moment she pulled out a pitcher and began reaching for a cup in a nearby cupboard. How old was this boy anyway, she idly thought. Looking at him he seemed old enough he should have been weened by now. Shrugging, deciding to try the cup first, she poured the glass halfway with milk and walked back over. "Here ya'll go sweetie," she said, offering the glass. "This oughta help."

Ray peered at the cup trepidaciously. For one, he didn't realize that it was, in fact, holding milk. He'd never actually seen the drink before; he only knew it by taste. The squirrel was aware of how to use a cup, but he'd only ever been given water in one. Grasping for the glass with trembly hands, the squirrel paused to peer inside of it, and frowned. He didn't really want it, but one thing he knew too well was that you never turn down an offer when you're hungry. With a short sigh, the child raised the cup to his mouth and took a big gulp. ...Which was almost immediately coughed back out. He distantly recognized that coveted taste, but... it was just... so cold. It was almost milkies, but in his opinion, a rotten version of it, and nearly triggered more than just a gag reflex. Ray doubled over and choked the drink back out, coughing and gasping and nearly dropping the glass.

Gasping quietly at the child's difficulty, Bunnie grabbed a nearby towel and knelt over to begin wiping him off gently. "Honey, are ya'll alright?!" she asked concernedly.

" Yucky..." Ray wheezed amidst his coughs, pushing the rejected cup onto the table top.

Frowning slightly, Bunnie grabbed the cup and gave it a couple sniffs. "Seems alright to me."

The squirrel sighed and wilted slightly. The longer the taste lingered in his mouth, the more it improved, and made him crave milk even harder. Ray's stomach released a plea, and his eyes rose to the cup he'd just refused. His family had never turned away anything they'd been blessed with; Mommy and Daddy probably wouldn't approve of his unappreciative reaction, especially over something as trivial as taste. Reluctantly, Ray rose to his feet on the chair and reclaimed the glass Bunnie had given him. Every inch of his body language reflected his unwillingness to drink its contents, but with a deep breath, the child made a second attempt. It didn't end much better than the first.

With another small sigh Bunnie once again took a moment to wipe him off. Taking the cup and peering down into it she wondered for a moment what to do, and once again her mind drifted back to what his age was and whether or not he'd been weened. He seemed to have no problems using the cup, so what could it be... maybe... maybe it was the temperature? "Hmm," Bunnie thought to herself, her ears flicking slightly and glanced over at the microwave. Taking the cup over she popped it in for a few seconds, then once she felt it was sufficiently warm brought it back over. "Careful now, blow on it first in case I made it a little too hot..."

Nodding quietly and taking the glass back, Ray could already tell she meant what she said; the cup itself felt warmer. The squirrel paused to blow repeatedly over the liquid, then tentatively raised it to his mouth once more. This time, however, there seemed to be no problem. The boy instantly recognized his milkies, and immediately progressed from sipping to guzzling, even tipping the glass too far and allowing a pair of white streams to trickle past the corners of his mouth. It was such a relief to finally have milk again! By this point, he hadn't had it in about a week, if not more. With a definitive tap, Ray plopped the empty cup onto the table and flopped back into the chair with clear satisfaction. His tiny body spasmed, followed by a surprisingly loud burp, and then a few pleased chirps.

Well, that was one crisis averted, it would seem. Bunnie smiled, taking the towel and gingerly wiping his face off a final time. "Well bless my soul, if Ah didn't know bettah Ah'd say ya'll enjoyed that." she said, setting the towel aside and ruffling the fur on top of his head. "Now how about we go find Tails?"

Ray chirped more loudly at the petting, and shut his eyes. His belly now full of milk, that nap he'd been jolted from before seemed to be intent on resuming. However, the little squirrel simply mumled, " 'Kay," and sluggishly rose to his feet, raising his arms for Bunnie to pick him up.

The rabbit noted this sudden change in demeanor while placing the milk away. Bringing him into her arms she gave him a hug, brushed a few strands of fur on he top of his head and kissed his forehead gently. She just couldn't help but smile again at how adorable he was. "Hmm, maybe a nap might be a better idea for ya..." she said more-so to herself, beginning to carry him off.

With a long yawn, Ray quickly settled back down against Bunnie's shoulder. Unlike most children his age, the squirrel had no objections to a midday nap; after all, he was tired. The doting caresses of his new caretaker helped his mind to relax along with his body. In Bunnie's arms, the ache of his missing mother didn't hurt quite so much.
