Patches' expression turned... slightly pensive as she tugged at the worn collar around her neck. From the looks of it, she'd even had to make new holes in it herself, so she could keep wearing it. "... Not by choice..." The stray mumbled, until she. with a shake of her head, freed herself from her reverie. "Yeah... I am. I just... still have my collar." For sentimental reasons... She told herself. Not because some small, stupid, still trusting part of me hopes one day Rachel'll just come out of the blue and take me back home!

Awkwaaaaard. "Ah..." his voice trailed off, and he scratched at an imaginary itch on the back of his head. And it was only about to get more awkward, he realized. He bit his lip, feeling as though he should say something... "I'm... sorry to hear that..." he bit his lip sympathetically. "I wish there was something I could say. I've always had things pretty easy..."

The hybrid just walked silently for a moment after Venice trailed off, then shrugged slightly, the motion almost unnoticeable. "It's been a long time since I was a pet, so I wouldn't worry about it. But a word of advice? Make the most of what ya got... just in case." A sigh escaped her lips as she crossed her wrists behind her back. This seemed like a good time to change the subject, though. "I think you've got a good plan though. It'll probably even work. I'll just explain my eye as an accident... which wouldn't be a lie." She'd been walking on Venice's left side, so he only saw her undamaged eye, but as she spoke, she turned his way slightly, re-revealing the almost white, sightless eye in her other eye socket.

The hedgemink flinched, his eyes growing ever so slightly wide in surprise. He hadn't noticed her eye before, and now the sight of it had left him somewhat shocked. " Oh wow," he said before he was able to stop himself. He then caught himself, wincing and shaking his head, simultaneously averting his gaze. "... Sorry. Um," and once again he was scratching at that imaginary itch. "I didn't mean to be rude. C-can you even see through that eye?"

Patches chuckled darkly to herself as she shook her head, in answer to the mink's question. "Nope. Completely blind. Don't worry about offending me though, you're one of the better reactions I've had to this eye." The carrit's chuckle then became a small laugh. "Usually it's the first thing people notice." Usually the only thing, right after the fact I live in an alley.

"Ah... I see," the mink responded awkwardly. Inwardly he found himself wishing there were more he could do for her; it was always a little shocking to him to see others living in such poor conditions. He continued to lead her on through the backroads that lead to his home...
