There were some moments when it seemed amazing that the hut Bunnie and Sally shared didn't have a deep groove worn down the length of the home. This was exactly one of those times; the princess paced slowly from one end of the hut to the other, then back again, and again and again, rubbing her chin in deep thought.
So much had happened in such a short amount of time. Lots of new residents had turned up -- over half a dozen -- in just a couple of days. Not everyone had been adjusting well; the little squirrel seemed terrified of everyone in the village, Lance kept causing waves with several of his neighbors, Fora still had an injured ankle... And of course, Dash had not only gotten a broken jaw, but seemed to vanish into thin air, until Uncle Chuck confirmed that he'd been roboticized. Sally released a deep sigh, and almost felt deflated as the air escaped. If I can't even supervise a single village, how am I supposed to lead an entire country?
The princess paused, and glanced at her reflection in the nearby vanity mirror. "...Stop it," she said aloud to herself. Approaching the mirror, Sally's expression hardened and posture straightened as she eyed her reflection. "There are too many people depending on you for that kind of moping; a leader doesn't have the luxery of doubting themself."
I need to stop dwelling and actually focus on what I came IN here for, the squirrelmunk reminded herself. And yet, taking a seat at the vanity, Sally pulled one of her many journals out of the top drawer and opened to the first available clean page. We're waiting for word from Uncle Chuck to arrive about something possibly going on in the north, and yet, I can't seem to focus on it while we lack details. All I can think about lately is the village, and everyone that lives in it. There have been so many problems lately, and I don't seem to be able to effectively handle them. I always try my best, but there's inevitably going to be those times when my best isn't good enough... And what happens then? What happens to the people living here? It's my job to take care of them and protect them, but even so we just lost a resident to the roboticizer -- one that just moved here.
"And that was after I allowed him to get hurt," the princess mumbled. She tapped the tip of her pen repeatedly against the paper before beginning to write again. I'll need to come up with a more effective form of orientation in the event that we do get more newcomers; the sheer volume of new residents in the past few days has brought to light just how poorly my current methods are working. I can only hope that the improvements will prevent any further conflicts or losses.
"...But after we take care of anything that may be going on up north." Dropping the pen and rubbing her eyes, the squirrelmunk groaned and tipped backwards in her chair. "Focus, Sally, focus!!"
