Sonic shot through the forest, Sally in his arms, following Nicole's directions to Never Lake. They cut a hard left and blasted out of the forest and onto a wide plain. "Hang tight Sal!"
They shot accross the landscape, zigging through several low canyons as they went, and accross a U shaped river, leaving a couple rainbow lighted water sprays as he went. Comming into another group of trees, Sonic looped off them, shot through, then did a reverse loop through a small cleft on the other side, shooting up into the air, and then taking off like a blue pinball down the hill. They shot through a hollow log halfway down and continued, flipping off several rock spires, he stopped for a moment to get his bearings, before they continued on.

Meanwhile, in an airship above the temporary base... Robotnik sat in his seat, his mechanical chicken perched on his lap. It was almost as comfortable as his seat back home- the phase "business before pleasure" meant nothing to him. Indeed, to him they were one in the same. And he was very pleased at the moment indeed, oh yes. Everything was going too well for him not to be pleased. "Sniv-aly... is everything ready for our... guest of honor?"

"Absolutely sir... and he should be arriving any moment..." Snively was clearly gleeful.

Sally opened one eye. Even with her eyes closed her stomach had still turned a few loops, but presumably far less than it would've otherwise. "Sonic, I think a straight line works just as well," she mumbled as she flipped open Nicole. "How much farther, Nicole?" "12.73 miles SSW."

"Aka, 1 sonic second!" he remarked as they shot accross another couple bodies of water, then banked up a canyon wall to go shooting accross the plains. A few seconds later Sonic came to an abrupt halt near one of several rock pillars surrounding the lake. But that's not what he was looking at. In the sky, floating directly above the lake, was what could only be described as a miniature planet. "Whoa...check it out."

Robotnik smirked, and stroked his mechanical pet. "And is everything else ready, Snivaly? I want this to be nothing less then... perfect." Cluck gave Snively the 'evil eye'. Which, coincidently, also happened to be the eye that had a 'tendency' to pop out randomly. Not that it did so at the moment.

Snively made a mental note to make Cluck's eye pop later. He checked everything. "Yes, sir, everything is perfect and waiting... and it seems the Princess will be joining us as well..."

"In...credible.." Sally commented at length, staring up at the planet with wide eyes. She had never seen anything quite like it; it was a whole little world unto itself. Aiming her PDA at the sphere, the ground squirrel asked, "Nicole, do you have any data on this little... planet?" There was a rapid series of bleeps as Nicole scanned her databanks. "The legendary 'Little Planet' is rumored to appear once a year over Never Lake. According to myth, the planet is the source of a great power, which is forever watched over by a powerful guardian. No other data."

"Great power, huh? Figures. A power source the size of a planet to match Blubber butt's ego." He dropped his gaze back to the lake. "Hey look!" he said, pointing to the base of a spire directly accross the lake from them, where a cluster of large buildings lay. "That must be the base!"

"Shall I fetch a calendar and marker, sir?" Snively asked, still checking everything. He was getting impatient, he wished the hedgehog and the princess would arrive already.

Sally flipped her computer shut and clamped it onto the side of her boot. "I think you're right. Let's hurry. That prisoner is going to need our help, whether it's Tails or not."

"Right, let's juice!" He scooped Sally up again and began zipping around the rock spire nearest them, going all the way to the top. They paused for a moment on the tip, before Sonic shot down the side facing the lake at top speed, towards a ramp like formation that threw them into the air at an angle taking them accross the lake.

Sally tried to gasp, but the wild ride took her breath away. In the end all she could do was cling tightly around the hedgehog's neck and shriek, " SONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!!!"

Sonic however was laughing joyously as they sailed over the lake and started falling towards the base. Keep ing a tight hold on Sally with one arm (though she was holding on tight enough for the both of them), Sonic reached down with his free hand and pressed a button on the side of his left sneaker. Immediatly their fall began to slow. "Chill Sal...the hedgehog's got it covered!" A few seconds later, they touched down lightly on the roof of one of the buildings.

The princess wasted no time squirming out of Sonic's arms, grateful to have her feet planted onto something solid and stationary. Her heart pounded wildly in her chest, and she took a deep breath to help calm herself. There was some part of her that wanted to pound on the hedgehog for pulling such a reckless stunt, especially with herself in tow, but that would only serve to damage the mission. Instead she simply said, "I did NOT enjoy that ride!" Sally pulled Nicole back off her boot. She would probably be needing her to hack into the computers soon enough. "Okay, let's go. We need a way inside, hopefully without being noticed."

"No, Snivaly. For now I'm just going to... enjoy the show." He grinned as the hedgehog and princess appeared on one of the monitor screens. Soon they'd be right where he wanted them, and then it'd be too late... "Lets see how long it takes them to find our... little surprise." He chuckled darkly. - - - A few SwatBots milled about the base, watching for anything suspicious. Apparently, they were doing their usual job of it. They hadn't yet noticed Sonic and Sally's arrival. One building near the center had more guards then usual, probably where any prisoners would be being kept at the moment.

Keeping an eye on the security cameras, Sally crept along the walls with Sonic not far behind, trying to keep to the shadows. After a few minutes of searching, she found what she'd been hoping for: an air vent. Using Nicole's laser to unhinge it, the ground squirrel wasted no time in pulling it free and climbing inside. "We need to find access to one of the control boards," she mumbled lowly, peering through the vents into the rooms below as they crawled. "That building toward the middle was more heavily guarded, so that's probably where we'll need to go. If Nicole can hack into the system and download some schematics and passcodes, it'll make it a lot easier." Sally ducked to slide under an especially large bundle of cable. "Not to mention maybe shutting some security systems offline." Suddenly the princess stopped, peering down into the grate. Crawling on past it and then turning around to face Sonic, with stripes of light crossing her face from below, Sally leaned close to the vent and struggled to see clearly into the room. "I think there's a computer in there," she whispered, "but it's hard to say. There's at least 10 Swatbots, too."

"I said at least," she reiterated, raising her eyes to him. "I can only see in one direction. I don't know how many are really in there." Prompting Nicole to use her laser in a low whisper, Sally carefully seared the edge around the duct opening, then gave it a tentative tug. (to see if it attracts any attention when she lifts it) [dice=7][rand=92801467169363372924433654981845699022461284442719338422993056625]

The Swatbots in the area didn't notice whatsoever. Way to go, troops.

"You know..." SOnic said, resting his head in one hand as he watched Sally remove the vent cover, "I could just juice down and trash 'em all for ya," he suggested.

Sally smirked and feigned bonking him with the vent cover. "I know you can," she whispered, setting it aside and reaching past the hedgehog into his backpack, "but I want to know what we're up against first. Let me see your mirror." The princess scanned the room quickly with the small mirror, then sat back up. "This looks good! There's 12 Swatbots, and two worker bots at the control board. You need to both take out the bots before they can send out an alert, but also stay out of the path of the security cameras." Consulting the mirror again, she added, "It looks like there's just one in the far corner." Sally replaced the mirror in Sonic's backpack, then gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Good luck, be fast, and don't get caught!"

Sonic just grinned and winked at her. "Hey, its me!" he said, then dropped down right into the middle of the SWATbot formation. "Yo bolt breaths!" he cried, and as their attention started to focus on him, he started to run in tight circles, forming and indoor tornado to start tossing the bots around before they could react properly. Sonic was gentler with the workerbots, since he couldn't just trash them like the SWATs. He tore a loose piece of cable from the wall, then used it to first pull the two workerbots away from their consoles, and then tie them up back to back in an empty corner. H ethen rushed back to the middle of the room and glanced up at the vent. "All clear Sal!"

"Great work, Sonic!" The ground squirrel slipped down from the vent, turned a flip in the air, and landed smoothly on her feet. Taking out Nicole once more, Sally crossed to the computer console and hooked up her PDA. "Nicole, crack the access code so we can have full reign on the system files." "Accessing, Sally." The monitor before the pair cleared save for a line of twelve rapidly scrolling numbers. One by one Nicole locked the numbers into place as part of the code, until eventually all numbers had stopped. The words "ACCESS GRANTED" appeared on the screen. "Yes!" the princess said quietly to herself. "Okay, Nicole, time to take a look around... Search the database for any files on any prisoners taken, starting with the most recent." "Searching..." Nicole's buttons flashed as she zipped through the massive amount of data in Robotnik's system. The monitor before them became a jumbled blur of filenames rushing upward as the handheld computer scanned for the desired information. Nearby, Sonic impatiently began to tap his foot on the floor as Nicole's search topped a minute in duration. Just before the hedgehog could remind her that they were waiting, however, the PDA announced the good news. "One prisoner file found, created two hours ago. Prisoner identified as 'Tails', transferred to Never Lake Prison at 17:39, located in cell 5J." Sally felt her heart leap inside her chest, but overpowered it with her will to stay calm. "Well... Now we know," she mumbled with a short breath. Standing up a little straighter, the princess continued, "Nicole, locate and download any and all schematics for the base, along with Robotnik's itinerary for the day for all operations occurring at the lake." She paused, then added, "See if you can find anything on that little planet, too." There was another minute or two of beeping as Nicole sought out and saved the requested data, when at last the computer announced, "Download complete." The princess quickly snatched up her PDA and shut the screen; she'd go over the information on the way to the prison. "Okay, we've got all we need for now at least. Let's get going."
