(A bit of a time skip. I know that Knuckles and co. aren’t done with Little Planet, but Robotnik and co. are, so I’m letting them progress a bit into the future, as Knuckles and co. will probably catch up quickly.)Being ‘home’ did nothing to elevate Robotnik’s mood- specially since the reports shown that organics had been sighted while he was out but not apprehended. Failure. He hadn’t said a word since returning home, other then to order Metal Sonic’s immediate repair. Instead, he'd taken to simply sitting in his chair and brooding. Failure. It was unacceptable. The plan, though hastily constructed, had worked so well in the beginning. It showed every sign of succeeding, the Little Planet was practically in his hands. And then it had all fallen apart because of that… horrible, miserable rodent… The rodent had too many victories. Far, far too many. Which made no sense. After all, it was he, Dr. Robotnik, dictator of all of Mobius, that held all the cards, had all the weapons, commanded the entire planet… shouldn’t of the rodent been stamped out long ago? But no. Again and again and again and again… It wasn’t right. Today’s victory was meant to be his, but it wasn’t. It wasn’t right. There was a flaw, somewhere. And certainly, the flaw was not him. He tapped a bit at the control board, pulling a status report on screen. Metal Sonic was repaired… or enough, at least, to serve the purpose Robotnik wanted of the robot. A few more clicks and the order was sent for Metal Sonic to come to the control room immediately. One down. Now for the second. “SNIVALY.”The flaw would be found- one way or another.

Working inside a conduit on a faulty circut breaker, the personality buried deep inside a robian squirrel gave a small sigh of relief that he was already out of sight. Robotnik certainly sounded like he was in a bad mood.

Shortly before the tyrant had called out for his nephew Metal stepped inside, stiffly walking up before Robotnik and standing stock still and waiting for his master to address him. His armor had a few superficial scuffs and dents in it that hadn't had a chance to be fixed before being summoned.

Snively cringed and shuffled in. "Y-yes sir, Doctor Robotnik?"

Robotnik removed his considerable mass from the chair and strode up to Snively, leaning forward a bit to glower at the smaller overlander. "I have one, simple question for you, Snivaly. Just. One." He hissed slightly as he said so, adding, "And I want you to answer it Snivaly, and I want that answer to be good. Now... What. Went. Wrong."

By this point Snively was sweating profusely. "Well... sir..." his voice came out as a tiny squeak, and he cleared his throat and bravely ploughed forward, "Th-the Guardian is a force to be reconned with... M-metal Sonic l-lacked adaptability to sufficiently... d-deal with the hedgehog... p-predict his erratic m-movements.. that... computer of the princess... it was no fault of yours, s-sir... it was simply that th-those cursed F-freedom F-fighters are al-always absurdly lucky..." He cringed.

Metal's head shifted slightly, eyes following the tyrant as he stood and confronted the small human.

Robotnik took a deep breath and stood to full height, continuing to glare down at his assistant. "Luck." He pronounced the word with hate, letting it hang in the air before speaking again, his voice a low growl. " Really now, Snivaly." His gaze shifted the robot standing beside Snively, and sneered a bit- not due to any hate for the robot itself, but only because of it's appearance. Looking so much like that hedgehog he truly did hate. "You then, Metal Sonic... report. What went wrong?"

Sounding choked, he uttered again, "Y-yes... sir..."

The robot's head shifted again, eyes looking up and connecting with the tyrant's. "This unit engaged Priority One Hedgehog in combat. Priority One utilized a Power Ring to accelerate forward and construct a trap this unit was unprepared for." He eyes flashed for a brief moment. "That is all data presently available."

Robotnik rubbed his chin as he listened to the robot, then turned to Snively, muttering dryly. "You're right, Snivaly. There is a lack of adaptability." He growled. "and who was in charge of programming this robot...?" And Robotnik continued to glare down at his nephew. "And who was in charge... of checking the situation on the Little Planet before we'd left to go there? Who was it that told me the guardian was nothing to be worried of? Hm?" His eyes glowed a bit more fiercely, and he snarled. "Or was that luck, Snivaly?"

"W-well... you see... sir.. there were errors... with the machinery... I... M-metal Sonic's progress... I don't have control over... the G-guardian... erk..." he swallowed thickly.

Metal's eye flickered and his head snapped toward Snively. "This unit is not responsible for failure. This unit was not properly combat tested before confrontation with Priority One."

Robotnik snatched the shorter overlander up quickly, snarling and shaking him as he spoke for emphases. "I. DON'T. SEE. ANY. LUCK. HERE., SNIVALY. ALL I SEE IS YOUR INCOMPETENCE." Shake shake shake. "HOW MANY TIMES SNIVALY? HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE BEEN THROUGH THIS? HOW MANY TIMES HAS THAT LITTLE RAT GOTTEN AWAY? THEY SHOULD OF BEEN SQUASHED BY NOW. SQUASHED. AND YET HE CONTINUES TO BE A THORN IN MY CONSIDERABLY LARGE SIDE." He breathed heavily after his rant, his cybernetic eyes glowing brightly, then suddenly dropped Snively. "We will do better next time, Snivaly." He sucked in sucked in another breath and scowled "Failure... is not to be tolerated." Having calmed himself a bit, he glanced again to the robot hedgehog, waving a dismissive hand. "Your new orders are in the database. Go now." He gave one last scathing glare at his nephew before turning and climbing back into his seat, where his robot chicken had been waiting for him. The dictator smiled and pet the machine, muttering something oddly without menace.

Having received his orders, Metal walked off silently.

Snively stayed very still as he was shaken, then nodded furtively at Robotnik's words. "Y-yes... sir..." After he had been released (and regained his breath), he quickly got back to work.
