However, the glares went unnoticed as Pachacamac was busy attempting to spit all of the horrid flavor from his mouth. It wasn't going well- definitely needed something to drink to finish it off. So with that, he got up and headed to the river, gagging as he went.

For a moment, the priestess sat motionless in the wake of her father's disapproval, unless one were to count the tears rapidly gathering and precariously balancing upon her lower lids. Eventually, however, her lip began to quiver, and Tikal crawled to her father's discarded dish. With a quiet sniffling sound, she tipped its contents into the grass, following suit with her own. Espio grimaced at the girl's reaction to the negative feedback while doing his best to ignore Manic's bitchy pre-menstral obnoxious glare. The chameleon scoured his brain for something to say to fix the situation, but nothing came to mind. Instead, he just ended up uncomfortably twiddling his fingertips. Meanwhile Tikal collected Espio's rejected bowl and dumped its contents as well, afterward heading for Manic and Athair. Her eyes remained locked on the blurry image of the ground.

However, with dirty looks to both Espio and Pachy, Manic steeled himself before suddenly dropping his spoon and upending the rest of his bowl into his mouth, swallowing before his gag reflex could make him think about it.

The elder blinked at Manic for a moment, surprised by his gesture, before sending a glance Espio and Paccy's direction again. It wasn't that bad. So, although his next action wasn't as dramatic as Manic's, he still reached out, resting a hand on Tikal's shoulder. "I'll finish mine, granddaughter."

The girl's cheeks glistened with freshly shed tears, both because of her father's disgust, but now because of the gesture she'd just witnessed. Tikal glanced at her grandfather at his touch, then turned her eyes back to Manic. Her breath catching, the echidna shuffled to his seat, dropped to her knees, and buried her face against his chest. "...." And the lizard facepalmed. Why didn't I think of that?!

A little surprised at the reaction, Manic wrapped his arms around her shoulders and just quietly held her.

The youngest thrope's face scrunched in frustration. Why was it that Manic always seemed to get his way?! It was bad enough that it had always been so with events, but now with the first girl he'd actually found cute?? In an attempt to keep himself in the race, Espio reflected for a moment over how he might regain Tikal's attention. Rob had been smitten on Rouge for years now; what were some of the methods he'd used to gain her favor? He never leaves her hair alone, the chameleon pondered, his eyes skyward in thought. Always looked like she liked it, too. Maybe girls in general like that. Eager to put this conclusion to the test, Espio hopped to his feet and darted over to the couple's side, taking a seat within arm's reach. Putting on his best smile, he ran his fingers through the echidna's spines and said as positively as possible, "Cheer up, Tikal! Everyone messes up food sometimes!" In that moment, the priestess tensed up, then melted into Manic's arms with a long, bliss-filled whimper.

If Athair had had visible ears, they would have perked, then folded back against his skull as he looked at Espio. He'd warned MANIC about that, but he hadn't though ESPIO would try it now. His grip shifted on his cane, then he looked towards the chameleon. Then, in a surprisingly quick movement, he'd flipped the cane around, so that the handle was farther from his hand, before hooking the chameleon's ankle, and pulling.

It was probably a good thing Tikal was on him, cause he might have actually smacked Espio one right then. As it was, it seemed he was about to get it from Athair.

At first, Espio was pleased that his plan had seemed to be working. It definitely looked like she was responding well. Then all of a sudden he got accosted by the cold, unforgiving ground. "HEY, what's the big idea?!" the boy angrily shouted as he pushed himself upright, whipping his glare around to meet Athair. And Tikal remained slumped in Manic's arms, her cheeks flushed and breathing a tad elevated.

Espio would probably be surprised then to find Athair close. Very. Very. Close. "I will explain when we are somewhere more comfortable." The elder mumbled, before glancing towards Tikal. "And after I have made my granddaughter some tea."

Idot... Manic thought mentally about Espio. He then gave the girl in his arms a gentle shake. "Hey Teeks, you ok?"

Surprised, indeed. Espio blinked and stumbled backwards on the heels of his hands. "Dude, I don't have cooties or something! You weren't this grumpy when I was sleeping with her..." Sucking in a deep breath, the priestess pushed herself upright onto her knees and nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry. I just felt a little... faint, I suppose." Stealing a glance up at Manic's face, Tikal started to say something else, then faltered and glanced aside. "I'm... I'm sorry you had to eat that."

"Hey, it wasn't that bad, really. And trust me, even IF it had been, I've had way worse."

A modest, yet relieved smile crept its way across her face. "...Thank you, Manic."

" Because that is ALL you were doing." With this cryptic comment, the elderly echidna looked back over at the pair, and smiled... very slightly. He was a bit rough, but... Athair had a good feeling about Manic.

Manic gave her a half-smile back. "No problem. Those two were just being jerks."

"HEY!!" Espio squawked, also turning his attention back to the two. "I was NOT being a jerk!! I was being nice and tryin' to make her feel better!!"

"Oh yeah, and you were doing real good with that, what with saying her soup was bad," Manic said with an eyeroll.

The chameleon scowled and folded his arms. "That's what her DAD said!! I said it could be washed down!!" " Um..." Even when keeping Athair's insights in mind, being in the presence of an argument was still as unnerving as ever. " Guys...?" "AND I was tellin' her how it was no big deal! I didn't hear YOU say anything nice after she started crying!!"

"I'd'a ate mine too, but she took it away!!" " Manic? ...Espio?" Tikal's hands found their way over her ears. " Please stop!"

His next retort was quickly bit back at the sound of Tikal's quiet pleading. "You know what, drop it! I was just trying to cheer up a friend, but all you wanna do is start a fight, so forget it."

Athair had been moments away from standing up, and making his way over to the bickering boys, cane in hand, when Manic, albeit in a way that wasn't exactly... smooth, called an end to the argument. There was hope for him yet. Espio... Espio was going to hurt himself competing with the hedgehog though. It's always a girl that does it, isn't it? Of course, this time, the girl was his granddaughter... Hopefully they would smooth things over by the time they got to Meadowood. And Crash... groaned, and rolled over slightly.

Espio seethed furiously as his eyes drilled into Manic. "SCREW YOU!! You ALWAYS accuse ME of doin' everything when YER always the one that starts it!! Y'know what?! I'm GLAD I'm not going home!!" Kicking dirt at the hedgehog in a final act of defiance, the frustrated chameleon turned and bolted in the other direction.

... only to run directly into a rather disgruntled looking echidna. GLARE.

"..." Shrinking backwards, the chameleon chuckled sheepishly and promptly vanished from view. Also noting Pachacamac's return, Tikal stiffened and partially hid herself behind Manic.
