Robotropolis. A city of darkness and dispair. Once the shining capital of a beautiful kingdom, now all that remained was a modern ruin, completely in control by Dr. Robotnik. Rising above the center of the city was his mighty citidel, where the dictator resided and continued plotting his plans to crush all resistance. Which made Nate all the more glad that they were about as far away from the center of the city as possible while still being within city limits. Not that he was afraid of Robotnik, par se. What kept him far away from the citadel was not lack of courage, but lack of firepower. Despite what he may have wished, Nate was far from a one-man army. Charging in and trying to oust Robotnik like the overlander did in the first place was an easy way to get killed or captured. Common sense was more important than bravo in a situation like this; it was better to be smart and alive then brave and dead... or worse, roboticized. Plus, he had Cassia with him right now. He promised he wouldn't let anything happen to the girl, and he intended to keep that promise. "Looks like the coast is clear," the ferret assured, peaking his head out from an otherwise seemingly innocent looking dumpster in the middle of one of Robotropolis' infamous junkards, "You ready to do this, guys?"

The sparrow on Nate's mind was huddled behind him, almost afraid to move, but knowing she would need to soon enough. With a shaky nod, the girl got to her feet, ready to make a dash if she needed to.

Luckily for Nate, he and Cassia weren't alone. Up came a familiar Buck by the name of Iron, as he looked behind to see if they weren't followed. "So far so good, Nate. I just hope we can keep this up." Luckily they didn't have much to worry about, just grab the necessary parts then get home as soon as possible.

"Okay then, let's go!" Climbing out of the dumpster, Nate quickly and quietly dashed behind a large pile of scrap metal. After doing so, he motioned for the other two to follow, laying low to make sure the Stealth Bots didn't spot him. That was the last thing they needed.

Silently, the sparrow scurried after Nate, keeping her head down. Of the three of them, she would be the easiest to spot with her red-orange feathers, so she was very careful to keep said feathers out of view while she ran. This was accomplished by covering her head with her arms, which, while it looked odd, DID hide her "hair" rather well.

As the buck followed his friends, he tried his best to duck his head down trying to hide his antlers. Obviously, they stuck out quite a lot. Luckily this is compensated by the environment being equally as dark as his antlers, so maybe he could sneak by without being caught.

With everyone successfully near the pile of discarded machinery, Nate began shuffling through the debris while whispering quietly to the buck. "Okay, Iron, you know I am completely ignorant to this kind of thing... What parts to we need in order to make a sunlamp?"

The buck felt around himself for something. "Hang on, ill need my training notes." He felt around his combat boot and pulled out a small white piece of paper. Then he read it to himself. "...ok, I got it." He put it away. "We need a small pile of light metal, some wiring, a switch, and a 50 watt lamp light. I hope we can find them all before we get caught."

The little sparrow was quiet as the two males spoke, but looked up as something caught her eye. She heard Iron's list of the things they would need, and had a pretty good idea where she could find some... aha. Thrusting her hand into a pile of junk, Cassia pulled out a robotic torso, which may once have belonged to a SWATbot, which meant it was almost as big as she was... using only one arm. Holding the robot's remains in one hand, Cassia seemed hesitant, as even the remains of these PARTICULAR machines stirred up very bad memories. Closing her eyes, the girl then THRUST her free hand into the robot's chest, and after a moment or two of rummaging, ripped out a handful of wires, that had actually been disconnected by her while her hand had been inside the dead robot. Turning to Iron, she held up the handful of wires questioningly, as if asking "would this work?"

When Iron saw Cassia with the wires in her hand, he took a minute to himself to confirm what happened. "...Oh, right! Good work, Cassia." He was mostly in shock, had that robot been active she would have been a goner, but Cassia sure is braver then she looks.

Nate let out a quiet chuckle. Whether it was due to Cassia's unusual solution to the problem or Iron's momentary dumbfoundedness was hard to determine. "Well, it looks like we've found our wiring... I suppose metal won't be hard to find either, considering this is a junkyard." He scratched his head as he looked around. "But where to find just a switch and an unbroken lightbulb?..."

Cassia seemed to have tuned out the two males for a moment, simply staring at the robotic remains she was holding. After a moment, she started trembling, and threw the torso away with a frightened chirp. Some memories just shouldn't be confronted, apparently.

"Don't worry, its a junkyard. I'm sure we can find the parts we need. And if not, theres always substitutes." Iron started to dig through a small pile slowly, hoping to come across the items they needed.

Nate continued to dig through the junkpile in search of the parts they needed. Unfortunately, besides the metal (which he began throwing into a small pile next to him as he found it), it was proving to be quite a hassle. "Huh..." Nate muttered as he held up a lightbulb... that was shattered, "It appears that the biggest challenge here is making sure the stuff we find still works after being dumped here possibly up to ten years ago..." Tossing the broken bulb aside, he looked away from the junkyards and towards some of the old, worn-down buildings near the outskirts of Robotropolis. While Robotnik had transformed most of the buildings near the center of the city into factories for himself, he usually left the ones further way untouched, simply letting them decay over the years. "Refresh my memory: There didn't happen to be, like, a tanning salon in Mobotropolis, was there? Or maybe some other place that would've already had a UV lamp installed that would have a greater chance of not being broken... A greenhouse, maybe?"

"A greenhouse? I'm sure there is." He looked over at Nate. "No dice, huh?" Iron wasn't any less unlucky, so far he couldn't find the light bulb. But through sheer luck he managed to find a perfect switch, it was a little worn but can be fixed.

@dagger@ "Perhaps I can be of assistance." A mysterious figure said blinking open auburn eyes as it blended away from the shadows of a tall junk pile. Standing before the group was Dagger the Jackal. He was pretty well known to the Lower Mobians, but as someone who could be visited in the brig. He'd since been released from his imprisonment, but he hadn't been friendly with anyone.
"The lightbulbs and switches won't be found here. They need to be taken from Robotnik's supplies. Luckily there's a factory nearby, and the guard is thin." His voice went beyond gravely, and became a dark raspy accent all its own. He also breathed heavily, illustrating to the group the labor it took him to breathe.

Cassia had been the closest to the jackal as he appeared, and let out a startled chirp, darting behind Nate, and huddling behind him. She'd had NO idea he was there... and that bothered her.

Nate didn't appear to be surprised at Dagger's appearance, but that didn't mean he was pleased to see him. When Cassia hid behind him, he gladly aided in shielding her from the jackal. It wasn't that Nate thought Dagger would attack them or anything, but he was always generally defensive towards anyone whom Cassia was afraid of. Between his dark appearance and, you know, being a convicted felon, Dagger clearly fit that requirement. Still, he was a fellow "freedom fighter," so the ferret tried his hardest to adress him as such, personal feelings aside. "Thank you for the advice, Dagger, but I think we can manage," Nate replied, his voice showing no real sign of malice, but no hint of friendliness, either, "I promised Cassia we'd stay far away from any guards. I don't go back on promises with friends." There was a short pause as Nate realized something else. "... And how did you find out we were here, anyway?"

@dagger@ "I overheard." Dagger said idly, shrugging his shoulders.
"I can see how your getting involved could be a problem," he continued, crossing his arms. "Perhaps I can find another interested party." His eyes narrowed towards Iron as he said that.

However, Dagger wouldn't find Iron anymore trusting. In fact, the buck crossed his arms when he addressed the felon. "Sorry, I'm with their party myself. Cassia's safety takes priority, and no matter how small the risk is, fighting guards is not desirable." Even though they needed the parts, its not like Dagger knew everything in this junkyard. Odds are good, there still could be a good bulb somewhere.

@dagger@ "Very well, I'll do it myself." Dagger began to sway forward on his feet, moving his thin frame towards the center of the freedom fighters, intending to pass through in between all of them.

The sparrow was already nervous around the jackal, and seeing him come CLOSER did nothing to help, so she moved towards Nate's side, AWAY from Dagger. While doing so, however, she wasn't paying attention to where her feet were landing... Such as, for example, on a loose patch of junk, which slipped out from under her. With a startled cry, Cassia was sent careening down the side of the pile of junk that had served well enough as "ground" in the past... Which apparently had a sharp drop some distance away, as after some sliding, she simply dropped out of sight.

Nate did a double-take as Cassia suddenly slid clean out of sight. In a flash, the ferret was racing down the hill of junk in hopes of catching up to the sparrow. "HOLD ON, CASSIA! I'M COMMING!" he shouted before begining to mutter under panted breaths, "Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh... Zack's gonna kill me, Griff's gonna kill me, Cassia's dad is gonna regain his free-will, find me, and then he's gonna kill me..." However, his train of thought came screeching to a stop - along with his running - when he noticed the sudden drop-off up ahead. Unfortunately, this caused him to loose his balance and lean far over the edge... ... And then his virtigo kicked in. "Woah... Uh... Oh..." Nate uttered as the world began to spin around hime while he tried to keep himself upright, but failing miserably, "Aw, cra..." And then he fell over the side, too.

He was staring at the ground. That wasn't right. He had been looking ahead only a second ago. He hadn't tripped, had he? No, that wasn't right either. Pushing himself up he glanced around in confusion. "HOLD ON, CASSIA! I'M COMING!"Ah. Intruders. Any semblance of conscious thought vanished like wisps of smoke as though they never were, combat protocols seizing control of his mind. Talons dug into the dirt, ring-shaped eyes brightened. In one fluid motion he turned, shoving the sparrow off of him and leaping back to his feet. "Freedom fighters!" Metal Sonic shouted. "Halt by order of Robotnik!"

Iron followed them both and started to slide down the junky hill. "Cassia, Nate!" He then saw Metal and heard his voice, which caused his eyes to widen in fear. "Oh no!" What a time for them to run into a guardbot, and this one looked advanced. He looked a lot like the legendary Sonic, could it be hes been...no impossible. "Nate, watch out!" He yelled to his falling comrade, can he slide to them in time to help?

@dagger@ Dagger took a couple of steps back away from the chasm, then turned and darted in another direction. Hasty rescues were not his style. Besides, he knew there'd be no need to fall in a hole when he knew Robotnik's efficient structure would allow him another passage into the same area. He needed time to plan, and as alway, when Dagger planned, he vanished.

What... what just happened? The girl remembered falling... and she landed on something hard, not surprising in a junkyard... until her landing site MOVED, dumping her to the ground. With a terrified chirp, Cassia darted behind a pile of junk... although her bright hair was still visible.

Cassia had nothing to fear. Nate would protect her... Abet very unintentionally. "... AAAAAPPP---" SLAM!And once again, Metal would find himself on the ground with someone on top of him. This time, however it was a very dizzy, very panicked ferret. "Cassia! Where are you!?" Nate called out, pulling his head up and looking around in a frenzy, "Come on, speak to me! Tell me you're alri..." Nate suddenly paused as he realized that what he was now on top of was... not the ground. Looking down, he found himself staring straight into the eyes of a very much active robot... and one that looked a lot more complex than a normal SWATbot, to boot. "Oh... Uh... Heh heh... Why, hello there."

More complex than a SWATbot perhaps, but at the same time the metallix bared a striking resemblance to a roboticized hedgehog - one the group may or may not have found familiar to boot. Metal's eyes flickered, and for a moment a sense of anger seemed to override his protocol over being fallen on for the second time. The bird had run off, and now Metal realized there was more than one intruder. With a silent alarm to call in backup, the robot swiped at Nate, attempting to grapple himself on top of him. [dice=9] Nate was still far too disoriented to even begin to react to the metallix's attack, and he soon found himself on the ground with the robot on top of him. "Ugh... Get off me, you bucket of bolts!" Nate grunted as he tried to shove Metal off to the side, "You know, most people wait until at least the third date before they..." Nate's remarks quickly died off when he finally realized just what was attacking him. Yes, it was a robot, but a very familiar-looking robot... One he remembered from the time they were visited by members of the Knothole Freedom Fighter group... "Oh no... Sonic?" Nate asked in disbelief, slowly lessening his struggling as he did so, "They got you, too?"[rand=126546817420456718705087545049298302681634119151333414693176196377]
