A streak of blue darted between several wooden obstacles dotted throughout the forest. There was no halt in any of its movements as it randomly rocketed through the leafy locale. The blur was, of course, Sonic the Hedgehog, who was intently searching for something deep in the heart of this woodland... Or, rather, someone. At some point -- and, for the life of himself, he could not recollect -when- -- he had managed to lose track of one particular feline; Blaze the Cat. An -injured- Blaze the Cat, to say the least. Obviously, the speedy wonder was, by no means, pleased with himself. This was the kind of mistake somebody like -Knuckles- was only supposed to make -- For Sonic, this was purely irresponsible.
So did he have any excuse for it? As he dashed across the forest floor, he pondered to himself, the very answer screaming loud and clear throughout his entire cranial structure; -No-. He made a dumb mistake, and now he was paying for it. The price? Possible the life and limb of one whom he considered a friend; a close -ally-.
What kind of a friend leaves someone by their lonesome due to a distraction regarding the twisting of time and space?
...
Well, to be clear... In Sonic's eyes, that was as good of an excuse as any. As it stood, that was probably the main reason behind a lot of things that had been happening as of late; The strange portals linking the different worlds and realms. Had they not begun their random appearances and malfunctions and whatnot, then perhaps, Blaze wouldn't have been in this mess.
On the same token, neither would Sonic be running about as if he had lost his only child in the supermarket.
The hedgehog sighed, and zipped past an enclosure of trees as he wondered just how he was going to get out of this mess. Then, as soon as he had sped onwards, he came to an immediate stop, before dashing right back again. He halted in front of the enclosure, and looked out towards the center...
It was odd... what lay before him was a clearing of some kind. Off to the left, there was a shimmering pond that encircled a large boulder, flowers of all kinds growing around the peculiar clearing. However, it was not the boulder, the water, or the flora that caught his eye, but rather, another one of those portals hanging loosely above the rocky structure.
Sonic paused, before slowly making his way towards the gateway in question. It was here that he began to reflect on the options presented to him. For one, he could continue to wonder aimlessly in this enormous forest, searching in vain for someone who may have already been picked up by another caring soul. On the other hand, he could halt his current search, and switch to a new objective entirely; one that he would form the moment he set foot on what lay beyond this circular dimensional rip.
"... Well, it was one of these that brought me here... maybe it'll be one that'll take me back? Or, at the very least, deposit me somewhere that'll give me some kind of a lead to go on..."
He turned his back on the gateway, and gazed back to the surrounding woodland, taking a few steps forward. "Or... I could end up droppin' someplace pretty nasty."
There was a silence that settled amidst the entire area, as the hedgehog thought deeply about what he should be deciding on. At first, it almost seemed like he had made up his mind, as not a moment later, the hedgehog had already taken off like a shot directly opposite of the portal...
...
That was before he had made the sharpest U-turn in history, and churned the dead leaves and grass of the forest floor as he picked up his speed into the triple digits once again. His face displayed a smirk that, as always, reflected the hedgehog's all-too-common attitude of being too sure of himself and his abilities, as he blasted himself off of the ground, and hurled his blue form right into the center of the dimensional rip in the air.
"What's an adventure without a runnin' start...?!"
There was a great flash of light. And suddenly...
Both the portal and its passenger had vanished.
The leaves rustled gently as a breeze pushed through the natural catacombs of the forest. Birds began to chirp, and sing...
And somewhere...
A hedgehog was having the ride of a lifetime.
But whether he would land safely, or fall into a perilous situation... that had yet to be determined.
