Blinking over this statement, the hybrid carefully eyed the dropped treat, and then... bent down and gave it an experimental whiff.

"You can have it if you want it," the pangolin muttered when she realized what he was doing. "I don't actually like those; I just bought it for one of those school fund-raisers. It's got nuts in it, and I don't care for them."

What Leedz may not have been prepared for, or even expecting, was when Venice switched from sniffing at the candybar to leaning toward her hindquarters.

Unprepared and unsuspecting indeed, Leedz never even noticed his actions until she found herself spilling onto her left side from the added weight. "Hey!! What are you--" Suddenly she noticed where his face had gone, and her cheeks darkened. "-- DOING?!" (attempted bamf) [dice=6][rand=88484230759980690445007151660709617154792879213248968852382647754]

[dice=6] The mink's eyes went wide, and Leedz' tail began to glow brightly just inches from making impact with his snout. He quickly scrambled away, wrapping his tail around himself, and despite having just glanced a major blow looked as though he'd taken the full brunt. "What was that for?!"[rand=82117993414477417708306987628447193387113038119731895389109403126]

"What do you THINK?!" Leedz growled angrily. She started to get back up, but found herself unable to stand because the mink apparently still had a mental grip on her tail. Frowning deeply, the writer stared intently at the blue energy surrounding her scaly appendage. A strange sort of warmth flowed throughout her body, in a way she couldn't quite explain. All at once she gave a massive snap of her tail, and the cyan light disappeared as though she'd flicked off water. " Hmph..." the pangolin grunted as she finally sat upright.

"I'm not sure what I did wrong?!" he sputtered, looking genuinely scared and confused. This confusion quickly shifted into a stunned gape when he realized the kinetic hold on her had been forcefully shattered.

FACEPALM. "Let's just say that where I come from, people keep their noses out of other people's crotches unless they're given a personal invitation."

Venice screwed his face up. What did she mean, like arranged breeding or something? "I was just trying to figure out where you were hiding that stuff... I mean it's not like you have sleeves..."

"I TOLD you where I was hiding it," Leedz grumbled, retrieving her notebook and setting back to work -- although the nature of her writing had taken a very grumpy turn.

But how? the mink wanted to ask. Instead, his ears folded back in response to her harsh answer and attitude. He still didn't exactly understand what he'd done wrong. With a wilted sigh he turned and trudged off for another area of the room.

And, just about then, the sound of clicking heels neared the room...

A sound which caused Venice's fur to puff up. "Oh," he said, turning to Leedz with widened eyes. " WeneedtohideyouRIGHTNOW."

Glancing over the top edge of her notebook, Leedz blinked in surprise over her host's panic. "Hide me? Can't we just explain..?"

Venice shook his head. "You don't understand, Silvie hates strays! She'll call the pound on you!"

Tucking the notebook away and rising to her feet, the pangolin frowned. "Well I'd offer to leave, but you won't let me go out without a collar. Can't I borrow yours or something?" Groaning internally, she began to massage the wound at the back of her head. Maybe it was still distantly possible this could all be a dream.

Venice paused, his fur settling back in place. "Oh, hey... actually..." he slapped his fist into his palm. "That's it! Follow my lead, okay?"

Click click click... the sound of heels continued down the hall, eventually stopping in front of the door, a tall, red headed woman coming into view.
@silvia@ "Vennie," she began, but then halted, her gaze falling onto the pangolin.
"... Oh. ... Who is this?"

"U-Um," the pangolin stuttered, surprised to find herself so nervous all of a sudden, "My name is Leedz and I--"

Suddenly she found her mouth clamping shut by no apparent means. Venice smiled happily up to Silvia and and stepped in front of Leedz. "She's my friend!"

@silvia@ One of the woman's brows raised.
"Is she now? You haven't brought her around before..."

"That's because I only just met her," he looked back at Leedz. "See, these beastnappers were trying to steal her and they hit her over the head and took her collar. But I helped her," he grinned. "I brought her here so she'd be safe and tried to bandage her head but she got that am... ambe... she forgot who her owner was." He then looked back up at Silvia with a rather sheepish expression. "I hope that's okay?"

Behind him, Leedz's hands clamped around her muzzle, as though to physically pull away whatever had impeded her speech. As Venice told his tale, the pangolin grunted and focused, and managed to break the offending energy for a second time. " STOP DOING THAT!!" she hissed in the minkhog's ear.

@silvia@ The woman's expression was... skeptical, to say the least.
"Well, maybe if we wait she'll remember who she belongs to."
That said, she glanced down the hallway a moment.
"Vennie, there have been some odd things happening lately. People seem to be disappearing. I want you to be careful."
Glancing back to the two, she frowned. "Infact it may be better if the two of you simply stayed here for now. I need to run down to the theater, however. I should be back shortly..."

Funny how these sorts of coincidences happen, for JUST THEN... the floor rippled and then melted away from beneath Venice, leaving behind only a colorful vortex. The sudden loss of balance caused him to yelp in surprise, and for a moment it appeared as though the hybrid was to meet the fate of so many others in his situation. However, as he sunk to his waist, his entire body became enveloped with a cyan aura, and he defied gravity by diving upward. Maintaining his place in the air, he stared down at the now closing rip in shock. "What was THAT?!"

@silvia@ Stunned by the sudden colourful display, Silvia stood shock still for a moment, her expression one of aghast surprise. Snapping out of it, she lunged forward, plucking the mink hybrid from his place in the air and cradling him close in the same fashion would to prevent their child from coming into danger.
"Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, ohmygoodness..."

Unlike the other two, Leedz simply stared at the space where the portal had been just a few seconds earlier. Sure she was surprised, but by no means shocked. She'd traveled through many portals in her day, just... not ones that randomly opened up beneath one's feet. "...Well, I guess that explains how I got here," the pangolin announced. Her mouth scrunched to one side. "Kind of a shame it didn't do that to me instead, or maybe I'd have been able to get back home."

Still a bit shaken from the experience, Venice wrapped his arms around his owner and gave her a reassuring nuzzle. "I'm okay, Silvie."

@silvia@ Running her fingers through the fur on Venice's head, her gaze darted to the pangolin, her brow furrowing.
"What are you talking about??"

Leedz's mouth scrunched. Having to answer really basic questions left and right was really starting to get obnoxious, but... If you don't know, you don't know. Drawing a long breath, she considered how to get this going. "...Put it to ya this way: The world, as you know it, isn't the only one in existence. There's a parallel one, and that's the one that I'm from. In the bigger cities, there are stabilized portals where we can move easily from one to the other, but it looks like I got snagged by a random one." The pangolin nodded toward the floor where just such an example had taken place.
