Before Pachacamac could continue berating his daughter, Athair had positioned himself between the two echidnas, facing his grandson. "Tikal has had a stressful day, and needs to rest. I will explain where she's been, and what has happened later." The elder's eyes narrowed, his expression allowing, as always, no disobedience, or disagreement.

Suprisingly, Pachacamac was taken back by the Elder's actions, literally pulling back a slight bit. Giving his daughter a confused glance, he muttered something along the lines of " I'm glad to see you back, Tikal", before pulling away from the Elder completely.

Manic gave Pachy an rather displeased frown. He wasn't acting any way like he should be acting. True, his own family life hadn't exactly been grade A normal, but at least Manic's 'parent' had loved him, so seeing Pachy's attitude towards Tikal seemed very wrong to him. "Hey look," he said, deciding to change things to a less tense subject, "If you guys need a place to stay for a while, like I told Tikal, you can come back to Meadowood with me. I'm sure Rob and the others wouldn't mind. ...They seem to take in everybody."

The elderly echidna considered the offer, glancing from Manic to the two younger echidnas. He gave no outward sign of a positive -or- negative response, although he felt that staying somewhere that had more people to interact with for Tikal than just her father and himself would be good for her. In fact, he would most likely say yes... BUT, he'd noticed Manic's behavior around Tikal, and more importantly, hers around him. So he gave a different answer. "I will... consider it. Perhaps, in fact, we should speak about it privately, so I can have more information to make a decision."

Tensions seemed to be rising all around. To Tikal, this was her cue to start calming everyone down. "...So, how about I start making us a nice meal? I'm sure we're all very hungry!" Putting on a big smile, the priestess scampered to the campfire and set about unwrapping her cloak, sorting the gathered foods she had collected with Manic's assistance.

"Sure, no problem dude," Manic told Athair as he went to go help Tikal with the food. "Just, like, say the word."

The elder watched the hedgehog walk over to Tikal, and held back a small frown. "Perhaps now would be a good time, while I'm thinking about it."

"Uh...ok," Manic said, gving Tikal one last glance. He HAD said for him to say the word. Stting down what he'd had in hand, he headed back to Athair. "So..what'd you wanna know?"

Rather than answer immedieately, he turned to head away from teh camp a short distance. "Come with me, if you would. I would rather have this discussion in private."

"Um...ok," Manic said, a bit bewildered why he wanted to talk about Meadowood in private.

Tikal glanced over her shoulder at the two leaving the camp, an uncertain frown appearing on her muzzle. She could feel the Elder's tension... Manic wasn't in trouble, was he?? Although, even if he was, she was in no position to do anything about it. Turning her attention back to the food preparation, she stole a glance in Pachacamac's direction. "Did you sleep well, Father?"

Once they were what he felt was far enough away, the elderly echidna stopped, and turned to face Manic. "I feel I must apologize, as I was not... completely honest." Athair paused, gripping his cane a little more tightly. "For it's not Meadowoood I wished to speak about, but you. And my granddaughter." The elder's eyes narrowed -just- slightly.

Manic suddenly had an insane urge to jump back in the river. "W-wha? Look man, nothing happened ok!" he said hastily in whisper. "I mean...Tikal's great," his eyes seemed to glaze over dreamily for a second, "...and..." he shook himself, "But really, we just camped together, that's all!"

The elder was quiet as he listened to Manic's admission, his expression stoic... until he smiled slightly. "Good. If something had, we wouldn't be having this conversation... but your honesty is appreciated." With that, he turned, and headed back towards camp. "She seems to like you. Try to keep it that way."

Manic felt part of his sudden tension drain out of him. "Like, of course," he agreed enthusiastically. "I'd never try to get on her bad side...not that she has one..." he added, going back into glazed mode a little.

The elder's response was simple... and rather clear. "But you will find -I- do if she's upset."

That sobered him...a little. "Perfect gentleman I swear!" he said, before quickly dashing back towards Tikal.

Pachacamac frowned. "As well as I could when worrying."

Tikal cringed and eyed the ground, bringing the much larger echidna a generous portion of the available food. "I apologize, Father."

Eyeing the returning hedgehog, Pachacamac muttered as he accepted the plate. "It's not you I blame."

"Hey," Manic greeted Tikal upon his arrival, giving her a smile. "Anything left to help with?"

Despite Pachacamac's obvious insinuation, Tikal greeted Manic with a perky smile. "Just splitting up what we gathered this morning. There's really not much that needs to cook." Leading the green hedgehog back to her cloak, the priestess lowered her voice and stepped closer. " The Elder wasn't upset with you, was he?"

"Nah," he assured her, taking her hand and giving it a small squeeze. "Just wanted to ask about a couple details, and I assured him everything was cool."

And as if on cue, the elder stroke back into the campsite, finding a spot a little away from the fire to sit cross-legged.

Tikal released a relieved breath. " That's wonderful! I was worried he might blame you for my mistake. ... Which it looks like my father is doing." Closing her other hand over his own, the priestess added, " Try to keep your distance from him... It'll be better that way." With Athair's reappearance, however, the whispering and worrying abruptly ceased. "Hello, Elder! Would you like some breakfast? We have a lot more to choose from today, since Manic helped me." Her eyes then drifted to the unconscious wolverine. "And, how's he been doing?"

"Perhaps just some fruit, dear." He smiles, although the smile fades as he looks over at Crash. "And... he fell asleep shortly after you left, and has stayed asleep... albeit fitfully. It concerns me more than a little."

Leaving the men around her to discuss the important issues, Tikal made what use of herself she could and served the remainder of the foraged foods, bringing a plate to Athair and preparing one for Manic soon after. Despite basically being a servant, the priestess was rather pleased with herself; they wouldn't have had plates to eat on if she hadn't redeemed herself by finding the other supply bag at the battle site.

"Well..." Manic began, "We're pretty sure that Itzal, like, poisoned the river with something, and that's why the trees are dying and stuff. And so its probably not that great for US either."
