For the most part, the old echidna's granddaughter had looked awkwardly skeptical, but the longer he talked, the more his words seemed to make a strange sort of sense; after all, he'd basically described the things she'd heard and seen from both Manic and Espio so far, and such behavior did seem, in her eyes, to be indicative of some kind of mental malfunction. In any case, Tikal's attention snapped up at the utterance of the word "permanent". Leaning forward onto her hands, she breathlessly asked, "What is it??"

Athair's answer was quiet, as he once more leaned in to share this 'secret'. "Someone willing to be patient with them. Someone obviously not afflicted with the same disorder, who could gently guide them in what good behavior would be." He then smiled, resting a hand on the teen's shoulder. "Perhaps you can think of such a person?" His implication, though, was hopefully obvious.

Grinning sheepishly, the priestess replied, "I could try to help him..."

Athair simply nodded, his smile widening. That was a good sign.

With her faith sufficiently renewed, Tikal turned an excited smile back toward the green hedgehog, followed by springing to her feet and frolicking to his side. "Manic! Would you like any breakfast today??" Cue sparkly eyes.

Unfortunatly... "ZZZZzzzz...." Manic's only response was to continue to doze.

"..." Facepalm. Just then, a certain chameleon returned from the impromptu loo, and happened to witness the exchange (or lack thereof). Making his way back to Manic's side, Espio wasted no time in whacking him upside the head drawing on his face with charcoal kneeling at Tikal's side and shaking his head. "Well, that's rude of him!" Giving her new companion a passing glance, Tikal chuckled and shook her head. "No no, he's just dozing." Reaching a hand onto his shoulder, she then whispered, "Manic, wake up. It's time for breakfast." "...Hmph," the reptile grumped, sitting back on his haunches and looking out into the grass.

Manic immediatly started awake at her touch. "Whazit?" He looked up at her. "Oh, hi. What's up?"

"You fell asleep sitting up," the priestess explained, trying not to laugh out loud. "You must be tired," Espio chimed in, giving his would-be big brother a hug. Mid-embrace, however, he whispered in the hedgehog's ear, " Y'lose sleep because Tikal slept with me?"

If Tikal hadn't been standing there, Espio probably would have ended up with a knee to a sensitive area. As it was, Manic shoved him away roughly. "'M not tired, just not a morning person, especially after yesterday."

Tikal might have objected to the boys already beginning an altercation so soon, if not for Athair's "secret", and the distraction of her father's nasal outburst. Instead, however, she tried to change the subject with something more pleasant. "I'm going to make breakfast! What would you each like?" Ever mindful of the difficult time he'd had foraging the day before, the chameleon perked up. "PANCAKES!" "...I... I'm sorry, I can't make that," the echidna sheepishly admitted, awkwardly scratching her right temple.

Manic snickered. Pancakes? Did he expect her to suddenly pull out a frying pan and some batter out of nowhere? "I'll take whatever, as long as its not poisonous. I'm starving."

Feeling his cold blood gather in his cheeks, the embarrassed chameleon coughed awkwardly and mumbled, "Yeah, uh, I'll have whatever too..." "Great! I'll get started right away!" Humming contentedly, Tikal popped upright and practically skipped back over to the food supply. Once the priestess was out of ear and eye range, Espio promptly smacked himself in the face. " Stupid!!"

"Well, duh," Manic said as he stood up and stretched a bit. Leaving the chameleon to bash himself, Manic quickly headed after Tikal. "Hey...is there anything I can do to help?" he asked.

"I think I'm okay with the food here," the echidna replied, glancing at her companion, "but it would be helpful if you'd build the fire up a bit." "I'LL DO IT!" the youngest of the teenagers announced, darting for the firewood.

Manic just rolled his eyes, half wondering if Espio'd end up setting himself on fire. "Um...hey," he said, turning his attention back to Tikal, "Look, I just wanted to say...sorry, about last night."

As she looked up into the hedgehog's eyes, Tikal seemed to melt with joy. He's already taking a step in the right direction! she excitedly thought, clasping her hands together. "That's wonderful, Manic!" the priestess gushed. In her zeal, the echidna jumped up and wrapped Manic in a relieved hug. "Thank you! Thank you very much!!" Watching the scene unfold before his eyes, Espio scowled and broke a piece of firewood over his knee with a loud snap.

Which, somehow, actually awoke Pachacamac when nothing else had. With a long and loud yawn, he stretched. "... what time is it??"

"Ten minutes late for you to have woken up." Was the almost instant answer, before Athair looked in the direction of Tikal and Manic. Pachacamac remaining asleep HAD been helpful, since he didn't have to worry about the younger male disagreeing with him. Which was rather unlikely in itself. And a status check on the unconscious wolverine? ... Nope. Still out cold.

By now, a skillet had been propped up near the flames, housing several berries, herbs, and starchy roots, all sizzling in a dollop of water. However, Tikal's face twisted with dissatisfaction. "We've been lacking protein for a while... I'm no hunter, and we haven't come across any beans..."

"Eh don't worry about it," Manic said, still feeling a tad elated from the earlier hug. "We'll get back to the village today, and then we'll all be able to fill up."

Despite his best attempts, Pachacamac wasn't completely unable to stiffle the sour expression that resulted from Athair's comment. Instead, he diverted his attention skyward, making note of the sun's position and also popping his back as he did so. Sleeping on the hard ground wasn't terrible, but it wasn't easy on the back either.

--slight jump for ease of flow-- After a bit more time tending to the meal, Tikal rummaged several unmatching, chipped, faded, and otherwise disheveled bowls and silverware from one of her father's bags. With both Espio and Manic helping closely at her heels, the lone female of the group served up helpings of the rather unorthodox stew to the (conscious) men of her party. Finally, Tikal served herself last, and took a seat not far from the pan she'd cooked in. "I hope it came out okay..." "I think it's great!!" Espio eagerly announced, despite the fact that he hadn't actually taken a bite yet.

Athair took a bite of the stew, and carefully kept his reaction in check. It was edible. And palatable. Just... the combination of ingredients gave a unique taste. Followed by an equally unique AFTERtaste. And he hadn't known you could HAVE an after... aftertaste.

Manic took a spoonful himself...and had to work very hard to keep a pleased expression on his face. "Yeah, it's great Teeks..." he said, muscling through another mouthful. My stomache's gonna kill me for this...

Taking a slurp from the soup, the other echidna's expression faltered into an expression of disgust and horror. With a gag, he spit the soup to the side, then stared horrified into the bowl. "WHAT IS THIS?!"

Tikal quickly shrank backwards at her father's outburst, seeming to almost collapse into herself. Her wide eyes locked onto his dissatisfied reaction with alarm and remorse. " Ah-ah-I... I did... th-thebestIcould..." Also focused on Pachacamac, but with more confusion than fear, Espio looked into his own bowl and took a sample. However, holding a poker face was never among his talents, and a full-body shudder overtook the chameleon as his nervous system struggled to decide how to deal with this intrusion before finally spitting it back into his bowl. "Whoa, yeah, that's pretty harsh." Then he seemed to recall that Tikal was the one that made it, and he turned to her with a sheepish laugh. "....But, uh, it'd be great with some milk to wash it down?"
