". . ." The pangolin's eyes immediately drifted to the staircase. And just... stared.

Well, that comment was enough to garner a reaction. Now completely ridden of the fact that those rowdy jerks were back, Amy looked between Zachary and the stairs, back to Zachary, lifted a wilted finger, and looked back to the stairs. "... Uhh." The hedgegirl uttered, looking back at Zack with a odd and perplexed look. Something was tickling her in the back of her head, something she had probably learned back home, but with the queer phrase from the echidna and her already frazzled memory from that event, she couldn't remember what it was.

"... You...", the tenrec's face scrunched up in a few wildly different expressions before settling on 'very weirded out', "... you don't mean like..." He patted on his 'good' arm in emphasis, the fingers of his mechanical hand tapping briskly.

"What?" Zachary asked, returning his own baffled look when he noted everyone's reactions, Dash's gesture in particular. After a moment of letting that sink in he shook his head vigorously, raising both hands to wave in unison. "No! No no no! What do you think I am, some kind of whacko?!" he pinched at the bridge of his nose and frowned. "My arm was roboticized, same as my face. I just don't like modifying it because one, I don't want to risk damaging it, and two, I'm hoping someday I can have it changed back to normal. For Lidah's sake, do you honestly think I'd lop off my own arm if I still had nerve endings in it?!"

The cyborg tenrec gave a wide-eyed shrug. Everything about this place was so bizarre he really didn't know what to expect. ... But roboticization. He's heard that word before, and he'd apparently seen a version of himself who had ... well, been 'roboticized', but the explanation he got about it was very brief. How did something like that even begin to work? "What is roboticizing, anyway? I mean, I heard it turns people into robots but... that's all I heard."

Julie was still there, and still quiet. She just wasn't in exactly the same place. She seemed to be edging slowly toward the staircase.

[dice=2] (2) (Notices, doesn't) "You mean to say you work for some interdimentional version of me, but you really don't have roboticization where you come from?" Zachary asked skeptically as he turned his focus on straightening out another piece of the tenrec's armor. Then again, the echidna reasoned, seeing as he had met another version of Chuck who seemed to have no idea... He shook his head. "Hmm. I don't know the specifics of how it works, but I can tell you it was supposed to be a medical tool. My friend Sir Charles invented it. Basically, it was supposed to be the next step in prosthesis technology. Instead of going through the pains of surgery and therapy or waiting on organ donor lists and the like it altered the body's composition into a mechanical state. The problem was it was too thorough and it took away a person's free will." Having finished with that bit of armor, he took to screwing it back onto Dash's leg as well. "We have since managed to find ways of restoring an individual's free will, but the roboticization process itself is currently irreversible." Amy shuddered. "That's creepy." she said earnestly, even though she didn't quite have the whole picture yet. Being turned into a robot with no will... she had expected this world to be dangerous, as she remembered that non-Sonic and Eggman had apparrently teamed up, but she hadn't been expecting people turning into robots. "But..." Amy paused, "You and your friend dismantled it, right? So it can't happen to anyone else?" she asked. She hoped with all her heart that Sonic was roboticized so she could live out her fantasy at last okay.

It was hard to say if it was good or bad luck that struck just then; Julie had just started the process of ascending the stairs when the words, "restoring free will" hit her ears. At that point, the pangolin made a sharp U-turn and nearly trampled Amy in an attempt to get back to Zachary. "You know how to override the commands?!" she screeched, enthusiastically slamming her hands onto the table a la Wright the Phoenix. "HOW?!"

The snowy echidna blinked at the sudden zealous display, but otherwise seemed relatively calm as he look between Julie and Amy several times. "I take it a friend of yours has become a victim to the process," he stated matter-of-factly as he resumed work. "I'm sorry to hear that, but... forget him. He's gone."

And just like that, the excited energy became indignant, and Julie pounded a fist into the table. "BULLSHIT!! He was doing fine for a few minutes, so he's ANYTHING but hopeless!!"

Despite the fact he failed to even flinch at her display while screwing the last piece of armor back, one of his brows had raised skyward. "What do you mean he was doing fine?"

"I mean he resisted what he was supposed to do to protect me!!" Julie insisted. "He did everything he possibly could to hold off raising any alarms so I wouldn't be captured! He gave me as much information as he could and sent me away without letting me help him! And I promised him that I would come back for him!" While relating the story, the pangolin's voice had become slightly hoarse, and her eyes burned with determination. "That man means the world to me, and by Solaris I am NOT going to just leave him behind when there's some sorta way to get him back!!"

The echidna didn't answer immediately; he was far too busy staring at Julie after her explanation. After a moment he finally broke away, looking down and rubbing at his scruffy chin in deep contemplation. "He... was actually resisting his programming?" he spoke more-so to himself. Finally, he looked up again and stared her straight in the eyes. Again with the sort of intensity she probably would have found very familiar. "Alright, maybe your friend isn't beyond help. But that doesn't mean helping him is going to be easy either." with that point made, he finished screwing on the final piece of plating to Dash's leg. " Okay, kid. How's that?" Lance frowned to himself as he listened to the exchange, thinking back on not too long earlier when they had spoken to the Doc. He did say he had 'broken Robotnik's control' hadn't he? Judging from the strength of Julie's reaction perhaps he had misunderstood... Aw well, it would be cleared up soon enough when they made contact with Fini again.

" Lets see..." Giving the mechanical leg a few experimental stretches and rotations Dashiel tested his mobility. Despite the echidna's unfamiliarity with the technology, it seemed to be functioning fine. "... looks good", he finally announced, his gaze shifting up and away from his leg to glance both at the echidna and pangolin. "Who are you talking about, Julie?"

After shrieking indignantly over almost being trampled by the cantankerous pangolin, Amy was about to pull up her nonexistant sleeves and strangle Julie, when she realized just exactly what she and Zack were talking about. Amy's lips pursed. This girl was saying things that was quite likely something Amy herself would have said in her situation, or something similar. Suddenly this girl's attitude problem had an explanation to it. The pango-girl was still a mean-streaked witch in her eyes, but at least she had a heart. "Even if it isn't easy, just trying might turn the odds." Amy added, thinking of a phrase she often thought during hard times.

The tenrec's expression paled. Or, at least, one could assume it did beneath the fur. The rest of his face seemed to communicate his feelings perfectly fine, however. "... oh."

The echidna hummed, placing his hands on his hips as he eyed the reactions of the two Legionnaires. His gaze shifted over to Amy, and his mouth twisted in thought. "Yeah, I suppose," he started, heading over to where he'd earlier set the dead power stone down. "Well, as far as I know there's only two methods. One," he picked the dull cyan rock up and held it high, shooting a particularly annoyed look at Julie in the process. "Is through the use of a power stone like this. Unfortunately, this one's dead and useless. Fortunately, I have a radar that can--" He stopped mid-sentence and looked around in surprise. Whether Vize had left with the others or was a victim of another one of those portals he had no idea. Shaking his head, he continued on. "--That can track their energy signatures and I need to hunt down a new one for this town... Now, as for the other option..." he trailed off in thought, setting the stone down. "Well, the other option your friend sounds like he's part way to already. It's overpowering the programming through the use of sheer willpower. The thing is, I've only ever heard of one instance where a robian managed to pull this off successfully." That said, he grabbed a nearby mirror from his table and what looked to be a couple small makeup cases - one with a black lid and one red. Holding the mirror high he began smearing markings onto his face.

Julie released a long, relieved breath, as the news gave her a sense of having a great weight lifted from her shoulders -- although her posture seemed to imply otherwise. Her previously rigid stance loosened, and her head drooped, as though she'd finished a long, long run. Leaning her weight onto her hands, the pangolin mumbled, "He can do it, one way or another."

"Well, the fact you have such faith in him is good, but don't get yourself disappointed either," the echidna warned, turning around to face the group with his newly painted face - red markings now framed his eyes, while a series of stripes adorned his spines and the top of his head. "We need to get going. I have a friend you might be interested in talking to - we need to exchange information anyway. Maybe he'll be able to dig something useful up for you as well." As Zachary spoke, he took to tying his filter mask back onto his face. And Lance, who had been relatively quiet this entire time listening to the others speak, made a double-take at the war painted echidna and... stared.

Dash stared at the echidna, any doubts about the mechanic being his boss's counterpart now well dissolved. Still, he was curious, and for the moment it distracted him from the bombshell Julie had dropped on him only moments before. "... what's with the paint?"

"In case you haven't noticed, I'm stark white," the echidna snapped, his voice slightly muffled through his mask. "I don't know about you, but I don't particularly want to be shot at because my fur practically glows." Ignoring the reactions and stares he was receiving, Zachary snatched the power stone radar and his cloak, stuffing the former into his cloak's pocket and taking to tying it around himself. "That, and I belong to a tribe. Old habits and all."

Dash's comment roused her attention, and Julie snapped out of her stupor... only to fall into another one. Her eyes settled on the new Zack, her mouth opened to speak, but nothing came out. After several seconds of gobsmacked silence, she finally grunted a quiet, " Wut."

Amy's attention was also called to the make-up the echidna had dawned, though it garnered less of a reaction than it had with the members of the Legion. To her, it was less of a personal shock and more of a curious and eerily accurate coincidence between the echidna's markings, and the markings of a famous pangolin doctor the pink one had seen on television. Amy pondered the situation. It looked like everyone was going to leave soon. With Tails' plane grounded, the other two apparrently struck speechless, and this place practically barren, it seemed sensible to follow these guys... for now.

"Oh," the tenrec began with a frown, "I... guess I can get that. I wouldnt want to be shot at either.'' Going silent, he took the moment to glance around the room, noting... er... "... where'd everyone go?"

Zachary paused, looking around the shop again. It was true; that squirrel wasn't the only one missing. That koala, the other-worldy Rotor and that bat were gone as well. He sighed, and rubbed at the bridge of his nose. "They either must have left or... maybe those warpholes got them. I don't know. If they're not here, I'm not waiting for them. Let's go." snatching his cane, he opened the door and slide out, holding his arm high and concentrating as he produced another ball of light above his organic hand. Well, it seemed as though not everyone was gone. Midnight looked up as the door swung open. As it would turn out she'd been outside the entire time listening to the people within, and with everyone seeming to be preparing to leave she pushed herself away from the wall and looked the group over. "What's up?"

Julie trudged along after, her features still locked in stunned confusion. She might have stayed that way for a lot longer if not for Midi's comment while the group passed. Giving the flying fox a quick glance, the cyborg quietly squawked, " He's got paint."

The bat's nose wrinkled slightly, glancing over toward the echidna. To her amazement with that war paint on he looked even more like that famous doctor back home. But at the moment that didn't seem so much important. "No, I meant where are we going from here?" "Back to the city. That's where my friend's base is stationed. He may be able to offer advice for how to help that friend of yours," Zachary stated, glancing back at the group with an annoyed expression. "This time, for the love of Antowas, stay the heck quiet and do everything I say," and then, under his breath he added, " Shouldn't even be going out of my way like this, dumb insolent kids."

Amy began to follow the others outside, being introspectively and unnoticably quiet. Luckily, she hadn't caught what the echidna had just muttered under his breath; instead, she was hoping that, where ever they were going, it would hopefully reveal a lead on Sonic. The word city was a good thing in her opinion, as lately they'd been a magnet for Sonic, or related news.
